Abstract:
A Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) receiver removes the pilot signal from the received signal. The pilot signal is defined by its multipath parameters (amplitudes, phase shift and delays) and its signature sequence. Since this information is known at the user's receiver terminal (i.e., handset), the pilot signals of the interfering multipath components of the baseband received signal are detected and removed prior to demodulation of the desired multipath component. The pilot signal may be cancelled prior to or following the data accumulation stage. The pilot signal cancellation can be switched on and off depending on the detected path signal level.
Abstract:
A direct sequence spread spectrum receiver samples an incoming signal at a low non-integer sample rate relative to the input data rate. The sample rate is an integer rate relative to a defined data segment. As multiple segments are sampled, the non-integer sample rate causes bit/chip samples to process relative to the incoming data. Because the sample rate is an integer relative to a data segment, the samples are substantially stationary relative to each segment. Such a method is useful in global positioning satellite (GPS) signal processing wherein the time to first fix is minimized by having to correlate fewer sample points in the acquisition process.
Abstract:
Correlation between a pair of digital signal segments is measured by apparatus including a plurality of multipliers. Each of the multipliers produces the product of a respective sample of each one of the signal segments. The outputs of a plurality of digital-to-analog (D/A) converters are coupled to a summer, while each respective one of the multipliers is coupled to the input of a respective one of the D/A converts. The summer produces an analog output signal equal to the sum of the analog output signals produced by the plurality of D/A converter.
Abstract:
A method for operating a cellular communications system of a type that includes a first type of terminal having real-time transmission needs and a second type of terminal having nonreal-time transmission needs. The method includes the steps of (a) determining at periodic intervals a total amount of capacity required to service the first type of terminals; (b) subtracting the determined amount from a current maximum capacity; and (c) allocating all or some of the remaining capacity, if any, to one or more of the second type of terminals.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for mitigating interference in a satellite signal receiver is described. The satellite signal receiver receives satellite signals from a plurality of satellites. In one example, a control signal is transmitted to the satellite signal receiver upon occurrence of data transmission from a wireless transceiver operating in proximity to the satellite signal receiver. Signal integration within the satellite signal receiver is gated in response to the control signal. In another example, one or more values of satellite signal samples are selected from a plurality of possible values. Signal integration within the satellite signal receiver is gated in response to a percentage of satellite signal samples taken over a predefined period exceeding a predefined threshold. In yet another example, a gain setting of an automatic gain control circuit within the satellite signal receiver is adjusted in response to detection of interference.
Abstract:
Communication circuitry uses a combination of Pseudo-Noise (PN) coded and non-PN coded transmission periods to represent different data values. In one embodiment, a number of data values are encoded into a smaller second number of encoded ternary values. The Pseudo-Noise (PN) codes are transmitted representing some of the encoded ternary values and no transmitted PN codes represent other encoded ternary values. The throughput of spread spectrum radio systems is increased by representing data values in fewer spread spectrum time slots.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a mobile communication terminal employing a code division multiple access scheme, in which when it is decided that the common channel level is equal to or higher than a third threshold (common channel level threshold), an RLF decision control unit compares the SIR data with a first threshold and a second threshold to decide in sync state/out-of sync state between the local spread code and the reception spread code and outputs the decision signal. When it is decided that the common channel level is lower than the third threshold, the first threshold and the second threshold are set to the same value. In this state, when it is decided that the level of the SIR data is lower than the first threshold (=second threshold), the decision signal corresponding to an out-of sync state is output immediately after a predetermined delay time elapses, thereby reducing the power dissipation.
Abstract:
A receiver for the CDMA system which reduces power consumption during a suspension period of intermittent receiving operation by monitoring a suspension period by a low-power timer so that a VC-TCXO, reference signal group generation and receiving units are turned off and a modem unit is set to a sleep state. Upon resumption of receiving operation, a high-accuracy timer is started to count a time period and part of a received signal is stored. A PN code phase of stored data is calculated during the time period to obtain an indication value for phase deviation. State vectors for short and long codes and a further reception time are calculated based on the indication value. When the high-accuracy timer counts the time period and produces 0V(d), demodulation operation by a rake demodulation, demultiplexing, and descrambler units is started and is continued during the reception time.
Abstract:
A rake reception apparatus for determining whether a paging channel is received in a mobile terminal using a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mode. A searcher searches for a multi-path signal using a received signal output from a Radio Frequency (RF) part, and calculates an energy value for each hypothesis. A demodulator demodulates a Paging Indicator (PI) for a hypothesis for which an energy value calculated by the searcher exceeds a valid path threshold. A controller determines whether a paging channel is received, according to the demodulated signal output from the demodulator, and performs finger allocation using a multi-path search of the searcher if it is determined that the paging channel is transmitted.
