摘要： Each of record information blocks in various modes is divided into predetermined information units each having a head indicator indicating a head of respective one of the predetermined information units. An information recording apparatus, to which the record information blocks are inputted in time sequence for each of the modes, is provided with: an emulation device for emulating the predetermined information units one after another; an indicator memory device for temporarily storing the head indicator in a current information unit, which is one of the predetermined information units and is currently emulated by the emulation device, for a time duration while the current information unit is emulated; an update device for updating the head indicator, each time when an emulation for the current information unit is completed by the emulation device; and an error judgment device for judging whether or not an error is generated during the emulation for the current information unit. The emulation device re-emulates the current information unit, which is indicated by the head indicator stored in the indicator memory device, by use of one emulation method, which corresponds to a mode of the record information block including the current information unit and is different from another emulation method which has been used hitherto by the emulation device, when the error is generated according to a judgment by the error judgment device.

摘要： A raster image processing system and method that can keep up with the fastest high resolution printers now available can process images "on the fly"--that is, generate images from compact input representations so rapidly that printing can occur substantially in the same real time as raster image processing of input data. This system is capable of automatically "screening" data relating to the images so that the various gray scales or color levels are correct for a contone printing process. Different print engine control modules can be replaceably plugged into and out of the system to allow it to be used with different types of print engines/intelligent imaging systems--including high speed, high resolution color printing engines. A high speed data cache and associated array disk drive provide high speed throughput of data into the system. The disk array may, for example, store a library of high resolution graphics that can be accessed "on the fly" as needed in response to the input data stream. A graphics accelerator can generate, on the fly, many "primitive" or simple graphics (e.g, angles, lines, boxes, etc.) at the same time that the remainder of the print image is being generated.

摘要： There is provided an information processing apparatus having a detachable first ROM cartridge in which a control program and other information are stored; an instructing device to instruct whether the control program stored in the ROM cartridge is to be executed or not when the ROM cartridge is attached; a control circuit to control operation in response to an instruction of the instructing device; a second ROM cartridge which is provided in the apparatus and in which a control program is stored; and a detector to detect whether the first ROM cartridge is attached or not. When the instructing device instructs not to execute the control program stored in the first ROM cartridge, the control circuit allows the control program stored in the second ROM cartridge to be executed. With this apparatus, when the detachable ROM cartridge is attached, the information other than the control program can be read out of this ROM cartridge and can be used for various processes.

摘要： A VLSIC page printer controller includes an instruction processor which responds to a host computer and a printer video processor for accessing data from memory under the control of the instruction processor and serializing data for transfer to a printer through a video port. An I/0 interface interconnects the printer controller with an I/O bus to which is connected a host computer, memory devices, and other peripheral devices. An internal memory interface connects the printer controller to memory, and the printer video processor is provided with direct memory access (DMA). Data and instruction caches and an instruction ROM are provided on-chip. A RISC instruction processing unit includes as an integral part thereof the special function circuits of orthogonal rotator, bit/byte mirror, and pixel modification.

摘要： Method and apparatus to enhance laser printer speed and functionality including a general purpose computer, a laser printer, and a modified laser printer font cartridge, comprised of a 21-bit wide address bus, a read-only data bus, a page register, an address counter, a data counter, a font ROM module, an address-to-data converter, and a co-processor. The address bus is coupled to the laser printer and carries either address information to access locations in the co-processor or the font ROM, or data to be input to the co-processor. When the address bus carries only address information, the quantity of accessible memory locations is increased by mapping the contents of the page register with the bit code carried by the address bus. Thus, font pattern data may be read from the font ROM memory location represented by the combination of the page register contents and bit code carried by the address bus. However, if special information is loaded into the data counter, then the information carried by the address bus is actually data to be written to the co-processor. The data is transferred from the address bus, by the address-to-data converter, to the location in the co-processor represented by the combination of the contents of the page register and the address counter. The data bus is coupled to the laser printer and carries either processed font pattern data from the co-processor, or unprocessed font pattern data from the font ROM to the laser printer.

摘要： An image processing apparatus for applying effects to a stored image includes an optical reader. The apparatus includes a feed mechanism for feeding a planar element on which a printed, two-dimensional pattern having a certain resolution is carried, to the reader. The reader has a sensor with a resolution capacity of at least twice the resolution of the two-dimensional pattern and is configured to generate program data represented by the two-dimensional pattern in an external format, the data itself representing an image processing program. A reader interface is connected to the reader to receive the program data from the reader, the reader interface being configured to transform the program data to an internal format suitable for processing. A processor is connected to both the reader and the reader interface to control operation of the reader and the reader interface and to apply the image processing program to the stored image to generate an output image with desired effects.
