    Abstract: Systems and methods for forming a smooth matte surface of a ceramic component using a double abrasive blasting process. A surface region of a surface of the ceramic component may be blasted in a first abrasive blasting process, using, for example, a first abrasive media comprised of a first abrasive material having a hardness that is greater than that of the ceramic component. The surface may be blasted another time in a second abrasive blasting process, using, for example, a second abrasive media comprised of a second abrasive material coupled to an elastic element. In the second abrasive blasting process, the second abrasive material may be harder than the ceramic component.

    Abstract: A method of forming a ceramic component is disclosed. A ceramic matrix material is combined with a binder material. The ceramic matrix material and the binder material are mixed to create an intermediate slurry. After mixing the ceramic matrix material and the binder material, reinforcing fibers are added to the intermediate slurry to create a final slurry. The final slurry is introduced into a mold cavity having a shape corresponding to the ceramic component. The final slurry is at least partially cured within the mold cavity to form an intermediate casting. The intermediate casting is sintered to produce the ceramic component from the intermediate casting.

    Abstract: Methods for improved ceramics component casting. One such method may include vacuuming a ceramic-based slurry mixture and/or vacuuming a component mold. The vacuuming of the ceramic-based slurry mixture and the component mold may be to remove air bubbles from the respective elements. More specifically, the vacuuming may remove air bubbles from the ceramic-based slurry mixture and from a cavity of the component mold, respectively.
