    摘要: A bearing seat slidably supports a ball head of a ball stud in a housing. Circumferentially spaced-apart load bearing ribs on the outer surface of the bearing seat facing the housing support the load placed on the joint. Auxiliary load bearing ribs, between adjacent ones of the load bearing ribs, extend from the surface of the ball joint seat slightly less farther than the load bearing ribs. The auxiliary load bearing ribs come into supportive contact with the housing when subjected to heavier loads, to prevent excessive stress flexure of the bearing seat. The ability of the ball joint to absorb repeated heavy load applications while maintaining friction compensation and a stable torque without stress cracking is improved. The ball joint has an improved ability to compensate for dimensional tolerances, which facilitates component manufacture. The load withstanding ability and the durability of the ball joint are thus improved without an increase in size or cost.

    摘要: An assembly for adjustably mounting a vehicle external mirror includes a first arm segment for securing to the vehicle, and a second arm segment for securing to the external mirror. An axle member is secured to one of the first and second arm segments and extends through an opening defined through the other of the first and second arm segments, the axle member defining a swivel axis therethrough and the first and second arm segments being pivotable and adjustably securable relative to each other about the swivel axis. A securing member is attached to the axle member for securing the first and second arm segments together about the axle member. A bearing brace having a fixed end is secured to one of the first and second arm segments and a free end extending from the fixed end, the bearing brace configured and secured so as to form a leaf spring. A plurality of teeth extend from one of the bearing brace and the other of the first and second arm segments. A plurality of grooves are defined in a surface of the other of the bearing brace and the other of the first and second arm segments. The grooves may receive the teeth in any of at least two different adjustable orientations to thereby adjustably secure the first arm segment to the second arm segment.

    摘要: A ball joint having a ball stud provided with an integral spherical portion at one end thereof. A unitary molded synthetic resin body forms a molded holder having a concavity in which the spherical ball portion is tightly held disposed rotatable omnidirectionally and tiltable therein. The concavity has an opening of a lesser diameter than a maximum diameter of the concavity so that the spherical portion of the ball stud can be pressure-fitted into the concavity with the ball stud extending axially laterally of the molded holder. A link rod having a circular annular end held by the molded holder extends laterally of the holder defining in assembly with the ball stud a ball joint. The annular end is embedded in the synthetic resin of the molded holder and has an internal diameter substantially coaxial with the ball stud and greater than the diameter of ball stud spherical portion so that the synthetic resin concavity and the spherical ball portion have opposed smooth surfaces. The annular end of the link rod position and relative dimension to the spherical portion of the link rod improves the strength of the holder for holding the ball stud and link rod in assembly. The components of the ball joint can all be made of synthetic resin or the ball stud can be metallic. The link can be made with integral annular opposite ends with molded holders thereon in which are disposed respective ball studs. Both the ball stud and the link rod can be insert-molded in the synthetic resin.

    摘要: The present invention includes a method of relieving pressure within a sealed pin joint assembly so that the seal is protected from excessive pressure. The pin joint assembly includes slidably connecting a pin through a bearing assembly fitted within a bore in an equalizer bar. The pin is circumferentially surrounded by a pair of seals disposed on either side of the bearing assembly for sealing within the equalizer bar. The seals are positioned adjacent the bearing assembly to define a pair of cavities therebetween. A receiving passage extends from a counterbore at an outer surface of the equalizer bar and terminates at the bearing assembly and is fluidly connected with the pin joint assembly. A grease zerk is disclosed within the receiving passage to direct fluid into the joint wherein accumulation within the cavities is expected. As the pressure increases within the cavities either during addition of the lubricating fluid or during operation, a relief valve disposed within a pair of discharge passages in close proximity to the seals opens to relieve the pressure within the cavities. The relief in pressure within the cavities protects the seals from damage or destruction.

The head part is integrally formed with a peripheral flange, preferably a flange of flared shape. The surface of the flange is covered with an elastic layer. A fixing ring abuts against the flange to prevent detachment of the joining member from the housing. A closure plate may be interposed between the flange and the bearing and between the flange and the housing. Vibration and shocks imparted to the ball head through the shank is absorbed by the elastic layer without increasing the diametrical dimension of the joint.

The link is formed by forming a bubble between the longitudinal side edges of the link extending from the forward end of the link to a location spaced from the rearward end of the link so as to form laterally spaced upwardly extending side walls proximate the forward end of the piece spaced inboard from the respective longitudinal side edges of the link, forming the rearward end of the link into a curl to form a first bearing surface defining the rearward pivot axis, bending the longitudinal side edges of the piece upwardly to form an edge flange positioned proximate the forward end of the link outboard of each side wall, removing the bubble proximate the forward end of the link while leaving the side walls intact so as to form the clevis configuration at the forward end of the link, and forming aligned holes in each edge flange and its associated side wall to form a second bearing surface defining the forward pivot axis.
