    Abstract: Composite conductor for sliding contact with high speed contact shoes. The conductor comprises a metal rail of high electrical conductivity including a generally dihedral end face and a Vshaped metal contact strip of low friction wear proof material having a poorer electrical conductivity. The contact strip engages the coextensive dihedral end surface which has lateral end flanges bent over the edges of the strip so as to grip the strip and hold the latter firmly against the rail along the whole length thereof.

    Abstract: An adapter for joining two current distributor rails together, or supplying or tapping current to or from a rail, comprises a two-part insulating housing, a pair at least of contact assemblies spring-loaded to extend retractable contacts through slots in opposite sides of the housing so as to engage current carrying conductors in the rail(s), when in use, an earthing plate on the housing located to first engage an earthing conductor when the adapter is inserted into a rail, and locking lugs on the adapter to engage slots in the rail.

    Abstract: A track system for cars which carry heavy coils of steel between two or more stations where coils are processed. A single main track extends between such stations and switching means are provided at each station so that the coil car may be moved to one or the other of a pair of track sections at each station. The coil car is propelled by an electric motor and power rails are located in a pit below the car tracks. The coil car has a mast which extends downwardly into the pit and the mast carries shoes which slidably engage the power rails for the purpose of transmitting power to the coil car motor. The power rails are so arranged that an unbroken supply of power is transmitted to the coil car motor as the car proceeds to and from a track section and the main track.
