An electrical connector comprises an elongate insulative housing, a plurality of terminals retained in the housing and a stuffer. A pair of retention holes is formed in each end of the stuffer corresponding to ribs formed on opposite ends of the housing. Each terminal includes a mating end, a first mating tail and a second mating tail. A first gap is defined between the first mating tails of the terminals and the stuffer for receiving an end of a first flexible cable with the first mating tails contacting the first flexible cable. A second gap is defined between the second mating tails of the terminals and the stuffer for receiving an end of a second flexible cable with the second mating tails contacting the second flexible cable.

An electrical connector is provided for terminating a flat cable. The connector includes a housing mounting a plurality of terminals in a generally parallel array. The housing has opposite sides and a front end, with an opening between the sides for receiving an end of the flat cable in engagement with contact portions of the terminals. A pressure member is rotatably mounted on the housing for movement between a first position allowing insertion of the flat cable into the opening and a second position pressing conductors of the flat cable against the contact portions of the terminals. Overhanging extensions project inwardly from the opposite sides of the housing to prevent release of the flat cable from the connector in the event undesired external forces are applied to the cable which would tend to bias the pressure member toward its first position.

A flexible film which carries a plurality of conductors is wrapped around an elastomer, and the elastomer is disposed in the cavity with the conductors arrayed for mating engagement with respective circuit paths on the flexible printed circuit. A modified high density backplane (MHDB) connector is provided for electrically interconnecting high density printed circuit boards having predetermined interconnect circuitry including high density arrays of ground/signal contact pads, discrete power pads and discrete ground pads. The MHDB connector includes one or more contact modules, a connector housing, a pcb biasing mechanism, connector end caps, a flexible film, two interactive biasing modules for each contact module, and a camming member secured to the pcb to be mated. The interactive biasing modules contact with the flexible film to provide uniform contact force distribution over the interconnect regions of the connector and provide contact rivet displacement tolerance relief. The MHDB connector provides sequenced movement of the pcb to be mated into the contact rivets to provide contact wipe and may provide for alignment of the one pcb with the MHDB connector. The end caps provide for MHDB connector sealing and localized securement of the connector to the pcb. The power contact modules may include supply and return contacts and provide the capability for reconfiguring the MHDB connector for diverse applications. A parallel interconnect embodiment effects electrical engagement between two circuit boards disposed in parallel planes.

A solderless connector technique and apparatus is presented for establishing electrical contact between a flexible circuit and another circuit device utilizing relative motion therebetween to wipe away or remove any debris or other foreign matter present on the terminals which could adversely effect electrical contact. In a first embodiment of the present invention, relative motion between the respective circuit devices is provided by male and female housings having a camming device incorporated therein. This camming device will effectively wipe away any foreign matter or debris located on the respective terminal devices. In another embodiment of the present invention, mechanical springs are used to provide lateral motion to the circuit devices thereby wiping away any dirt, dust or debris. Preferably, a means for prewiping i.e., a cleaning pad, is provided to the present invention to facilitate removal of debris.
