Abstract: A multi-stage compressor is disclosed, which comprises: two motion converters driven by one driving shaft and converting a rotary motion to a straight-line reciprocating motion; first and second pistons (62) connected to one of the motion converters in opposite directions and moving reciprocatively in a straight line; and third and fourth pistons (72) connected to the other one of the motion converters in opposite directions, arranged at a predetermined angle with respect to the first and second pistons (62), and moving reciprocatively in a straight line, and which is characterized in that at least two of the four pistons operate for first-stage compression and at least one of the others operate for second-stage compression.

Abstract: Disclosed are crankshaft, single-plate cam and beam mechanisms that provide significant improvements in performance for 2 & 4-stroke engines, compressors and pumps. These cost effective mechanisms include linkages with the new and improved use of pivoting arms that operate with a variety of cylinder arrangements. One embodiment of the crankshaft mechanism has its crankpin roller positioned within a novel yoke-arm. The cam mechanism uses a pair of centrally positioned parallel links that are connected to roller cam followers and single or diametrically-opposed pistons. A pair of laterally extending follower arms connects to the ends of the links to provide support and alignment for the piston rods. Between the reciprocating links, cam followers and follower arms is a rotating odd-lobe plate cam. A beam mechanism uses opposite-direction extending balancing beams that are connected to links, cam followers and piston rods.

Abstract: There is disclosed a high-pressure compressor comprising a compression mechanism for reciprocating/driving a piston with respect to a conventional cylinder by rotation of a motor and compressing an operating fluid sucked by this driving to generate the high-pressure operating fluid according to improvements in a piston shape, positions of a cylinder operation surface and the piston, specifics shapes of the cylinder and piston, and connecting constitution of the piston to a connecting rod, which solves problems such as occurrence of wear on a cylinder inner surface by displacement of the piston, size enlargement by an increase of a removal capacity, difficulty in processing the piston and connecting rod, and a large top clearance.

Abstract: A scotch yoke radial compressor especially adapted for use in automotive airconditioners having a cast aluminum crankcase which is split along a plane axially passing through the center lines of the radially oriented cylinders. Each of the crankcase halves has a plurality of radially extending semicylindrical recesses which, when assembled, form the cylinders. Cylindrical cylinder liners are preassembled to the pistons and this assembly is then placed in one of the crankcase halves with the liners being received in their respective semicylindrical recesses. The second crankcase half is then secured to the first, again with the semi-cylindrical recesses overlying the cylinder liners. The distal ends of the liners are sealed by means of annular flanges which are clamped between the crankcase and the valve plate assemblies located at the ends of the cylinders.

Abstract: A housing assembly for a scotch yoke radial compressor especially adapted for use in automotive air-conditioners having a cast crankcase which is split along a plane axially passing through the center lines of the radially oriented cylinders. Each half of the crankcase has a plurality of radially extending semi-cylindrical recesses which, when assembled, form the cylinders. A steel outer housing encloses the crankcase and serves to form the intake and outlet chambers. The housing is formed of two halves which are joined together along a fluid-tight interface and additionally strengthened by means of a plurality of tie rods which pass through openings in the crankcase and clamp the housing halves tightly together. The tie rods pass through eyelet rivets disposed within the openings in the crankcase. The rivets are clinched so as to secure the crankcase halves together and seal the interface between the crankcase halves in the area of the tie rod openings. The eyelet rivets also serve to provide a guide for the tie rods during assembly for ease in mating the two halves of the housing.

Abstract: A reciprocating piston compressor or pump in which the pistons are spaced from their housing walls and supported for reciprocation by elastomeric guides or supports that will allow the pistons to reciprocate. A preferred elastomeric support or guide consists of a telescoping metal-elastic belt wound around the piston and bonded to the housing and piston walls. Either the elastomeric guides or separate resilient seals seal the space between the piston walls and the housing so that upon reciprocation fluid may be pumped or compressed from an inlet valve to an outlet valve on one side of the seal and the reciprocating mechanism may be independently lubricated on the other side of the seal.
