Abstract: A road surface evaluation apparatus includes a microprocessor is configured to perform: acquiring as driving information of a plurality of vehicles, position information of the plurality of vehicles, acceleration information indicating acceleration of the plurality of vehicles and map information of a predetermined road; calculating a degree of stability of a driving behavior of each of the plurality of vehicles based on the driving information when the plurality of vehicles drove on the predetermined road in a past; selecting a group of vehicles to be evaluated from among vehicles whose degree of stability is equal to or greater than a predetermined degree; evaluating a roughness of a road surface of the predetermined road based on the driving information of the group of vehicles; and outputting information on the roughness evaluated in the evaluating in association with the information of the predetermined road.

Abstract: A system for determining a type of a road upon which a vehicle is traveling includes a processor and a memory in communication with the processor. The memory has a road type determination module having has instructions that cause the processor to determine, using sensor data having information about at least one of a vehicle and a road upon which the vehicle is traveling, that the vehicle previously traveled on a ramp leading to a limited access highway. The road type determination module also has instructions that cause the processor to determine, using the sensor data, that the road is a limited access highway when the vehicle is traveling at or below a first predetermined speed for a first predetermined amount of time sufficiently immediately after determining that the vehicle was traveling on a ramp, and the vehicle is behind one or more preceding slow-moving vehicles.

Abstract: Systems and methods related to controlling an autonomous vehicle (“AV”) are described herein. Implementations can process actor(s) from a past episode of locomotion of a vehicle, and stream(s) in an environment of the vehicle during the past episode to generate predicted output(s). The actor(s) may each be associated with a corresponding object in the environment of the vehicle, and the stream(s) may each represent candidate navigation paths in the environment of the vehicle. Further, implementations can process the predicted output(s) to generate further predicted output(s), and can compare the predicted output(s) to associated reference label(s). The processing can be performed utilizing layer(s) or distinct, additional layer(s) of machine learning (“ML”) model(s). Implementations can update the layer(s) or the additional layer(s) based on the comparing, and subsequently use the ML model(s) in controlling the AV.

Abstract: The technology involves identifying suitable pickup and drop-off locations based on detected pedestrian walking paths. Mapped areas have specific physical configurations, which may suggest places to pick up or drop off a rider (or a delivery). A walking path heatmap can be generated based on obtained historical and/or real-time pedestrian-related information, which can be obtained by autonomous vehicles driving in areas of interest. Incorporating heatmap information into the evaluation, the system identifies locations for optimized pickup or drop-off in accordance with where pedestrians would likely go. One aspect involves classifying different objects, for instance identifying one or more objects as people who may be walking versus riding a bicycle. Once classified, information about the paths is used to obtain a the heatmap associated with the walking paths.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, a computer system and a computer program product project incident information within an augmented reality environment based on vehicle movements. The method includes determining a predicted path of a vehicle based on telemetry data associated with the vehicle. The method also includes obtaining driving conditions associated with a surrounding environment using a sensor. In addition, the method includes identifying an object in the predicted path of the vehicle. The method further includes determining a collision zone on the object and a corresponding collision zone on the vehicle based on physical attributes of the object and the predicted path of the vehicle. Lastly, the method includes generating a display of the driving conditions using an augmented reality device, where the display indicates the collision zone on the object and includes a virtual model of the vehicle that indicates the corresponding collision zone on the vehicle.

Abstract: The techniques discussed herein may comprise an autonomous vehicle guidance system that generates a group of candidate trajectories based at least in part on sensor data. This group of candidate trajectories is clustered into two or more clusters and one or more representative trajectories may be determined for each cluster. The representative trajectory may be one of the trajectories in the cluster or a separately determined trajectory that represents the trajectories in a cluster, such as a mean or median trajectory. The representative trajectory may be used to predict how a dynamic object would react to the representative trajectory. This prediction may be used to determine potentially different costs associated with the different trajectories of the cluster with which the representative trajectory is associated. These costs may include costs to induce following behavior by the autonomous vehicle and/or cost(s) associated with conditionally available roadway portions.

Abstract: Techniques relating to training a model for detecting that a vehicle is likely to perform a cut-in maneuver are described. Computing device(s) can receive log data associated with vehicles in an environment and can detect an event in the log data, wherein an event corresponds to a cut-in maneuver performed by a vehicle. In an example, the computing device(s) can generate training data based at least in part on converting a portion of the log data that corresponds to the event into a top-down representation of the environment and inputting the training data into a model, wherein the model is trained to output an indication of whether another vehicle is likely to perform another cut-in maneuver.
