Abstract:
To correct variation of a property of light orientation induced by inclination of a vehicle body during a cornering operation, a projector type cornering head lamp including an inclination sensor further includes correcting means. When the correcting means is mechanically constructed, it comprises a pair of opening portions formed on a light shielding plate, shutters for closing the opening portions therewith and solenoids for pulling the shutter downwardly in response to an output from the inclination sensor. When the correcting means is electrically constructed, it is constituted by a circular liquid crystal element preferably comprising a supertwistnematic liquid crystal and serving also as a light shielding plate. The liquid crystal element is constructed such that four sector-shaped ranges radially expanding from the center of a circle with an angle of 45 degrees above and below a reference line are divided into fifteen radially extending segments each of which radially expands in the small sector-shaped configuration with an angle of 3 degrees. Alternatively, the liquid crystal element may be constructed by a plurality of horizontal stripe-shaped segments. A half of the segments above the reference line is normally held in a light permeable state, while another half of the segments below the reference line is normally held in a light impermeable state.

Abstract:
A method is disclosed for the treatment of hepadnavirus infection in animals. Animals infected with duck hepatitis B virus may be treated with the 2',3'-dideoxynucleoside of adenine, guanine, hypoxanthine, 2,6-diaminopurine or various analogs of substituted purines. Several purine 2',3'-dideoxynucleosides inhibit duck hepatitis B virus in hepatocyte culture >99% at 1 .mu.g/ml. Potent in vivo efficacy of the 2,6-diaminopurine 2',3'-dideoxynucleoside for clearance of duck hepatitis B virus from the sera of Pekin ducks is demonstrated. The selective effect on hepadnavirus replication by the purine 2',3'-dideoxynucleosides is based on the discovery of an unexpected sensitivity of hepadnavirus to purine 2',3'-dideoxynucleoside analogs. These compounds present a new antiviral therapy of acute or persistent hepadnavirus infections.
Abstract:
An input apparatus for entering base sequence information of the gene, comprises a computer for analyzing the base sequence of the gene, an input apparatus for entering base sequence information of the gene to the computer which successively stores the base sequence information entered by the input apparatus and produces the stored base sequence information, and a speech sounding apparatus supplied with the base sequence information produced from the computer for sounding speech corresponding to the base sequence information produced from the computer.
Abstract:
Most beers brewed with the addition of cysteine proteases, such as papain, ficin or bromelain, for the purpose of chillproofing develop a tendency to gush or foam excessively after being stored in bottles and cans for 1 to 3 months. This gushing tendency is obviated by adding during the beer manufacturing process a special kind of acid protease whose proteolytic activity is specifically inhibited by the pepsin inhibitor S-PI from Streptomyces naniwaensis.
Abstract:
Either a first developer cartridge or a second developer cartridge is attachable to an image forming device. The second developer cartridge has capacity for accommodating developer larger than capacity for accommodating developer of the first developer cartridge. The control device determines whether the attached cartridge is the first developer cartridge or the second developer cartridge; determines that the replacement of the attached cartridge is needed upon comparison of a consumed amount of developer based on the image data that is inputted with a first threshold value when the first developer cartridge is attached; and determines that replacement of the attached cartridge is needed upon comparison of a detection value with a second threshold value when the second developer cartridge is attached. The detection value is obtained based on the detection information outputted by the detection device.
Abstract:
An apparatus for calculating a residual capacity of a secondary battery is provided. The apparatus calculates the residual capacity of energy in the secondary battery which is charged/discharged. The apparatus includes an arithmetic unit which estimates and calculates a first residual capacity based on a charge/discharge voltage corresponding to a residual capacity of the secondary battery, calculates a second residual capacity based on an integrated value of a charge/discharge current of the secondary battery, weights the charge/discharge voltage of the secondary battery with the first residual capacity or the second residual capacity according to the voltage changing rate, and combines the results of the weighting to obtain the residual capacity of the secondary battery.
Abstract:
A developing device includes a casing having an opening extending in a first direction, a developing roller, a thickness-regulation member, an engagement portion and a sealing member. The thickness-regulation member includes a thin-plate member and a regulating portion. The thin-plate member is fixed to the casing and has a lateral end extending in a second direction. The regulating portion is fixed on the thin-plate member and has an end face extending in a direction. The engagement portion is fixed on the thin-plate member and positioned closer to the lateral end than the end face to the lateral end to provide a groove between the engagement portion and the end face. The sealing member is fitted in the groove and has a length in the first direction longer than a length of the groove prior to assembly of the sealing member into the groove.
Abstract:
The birefringent film of the present invention contains an aromatic polyester having a repeating unit represented by the following general formula (1).In the general formula (1), A(s), B(s), C(s), and D(s) are each independently represent a group selected from a halogeno group, an alkyl group which has 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and an aryl group. Also, a and b each represent an integer of 0 to 4, and c and d each represent an integer of 0 to 3. R1 represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group which has 1 to 10 carbon atoms. R2 represents an alkyl group which has 2 to 10 carbon atoms. R3 to R6 each independently represent a group or atom selected from a hydrogen atom, a halogeno group, an alkyl group which has 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and an aryl group. Furthermore, l and m each represent an integer of 2 or more.
