摘要: A variable length coding method is comprised of: a coefficient value scanning step in which an RL sequence generation unit 203, a reordering unit 202, and a binarization unit 203 scan coefficient values within a block in a predetermined scanning order starting at a higher-frequency component toward a lower-frequency component; and an arithmetic coding step in which an arithmetic coding unit 205 and a table storage unit 204 perform arithmetic coding on the absolute values of the coefficient values according to the scanning order used in the coefficient value scanning step, by switching between probability tables 1˜4 for use, wherein, in the arithmetic coding step, a probability table to be used is switched to another probability table in one direction, when the arithmetic-coded absolute values of the coefficient values include an absolute value exceeding a predetermined threshold value.

摘要: A coding apparatus includes a motion vector coding unit that codes an inputted motion vector. A motion vector for each current block is coded based on a difference between the motion vector and a predicted vector obtained from motion vectors of coded neighboring blocks. The predicted vector is generated by one of the following methods: motion vectors referring to the same picture are selected from among the motion vectors for the neighboring blocks; motion vectors of respective neighboring blocks are ordered in a, predetermined order, and the motion vectors of the same order rank are selected from the ordered motion vectors; and the predicted vector of a second motion vector of the current block is the first motion vector, and if the second motion vector and the first motion vector refer to different pictures, the first motion vector is scaled according to the temporal distance between the pictures.

摘要: A motion vector decoding apparatus decodes a coded motion vector of a current block in a moving picture. The motion vector decoding apparatus includes a neighboring block specification unit specifying a neighboring block which is located in the neighborhood of the current block and has already been decoded; a judgment unit judging whether or not the neighboring block has been coded using a motion vector of another block; a prediction unit deriving a predictive motion vector of the current block using a motion vector calculated from the motion vector of the other block as a motion vector of the neighboring block, when it is judged that the neighboring block has been coded using the motion vector of the other block; and a decoding unit decoding the coded motion vector of the current block using the predictive motion vector.

摘要: A motion vector coding method and apparatus that improves efficiency of coding motion vectors when a current block is coded using a plurality of motion vectors. The apparatus includes a motion vector coding unit that codes a motion vector inputted from a motion vector detecting unit. A motion vector for each current block is coded based on a difference between the motion vector and a predicted vector obtained from motion vectors for previously coded neighboring blocks. The predicted vector is generated by one of the following processes: (A) the motion vectors which refer to the same picture are selected from among the motion vectors for the neighboring blocks so as to generate the predicted vector; (B) the motion vectors for the respective neighboring blocks are ordered in the predetermined order, and the motion vectors of the same order rank are selected from the ordered motion vectors so as to generate the predicted vector; and (C) the predicted vector for the second motion vector of the current block shall be the first motion vector, and if the second motion vector and the first motion vector refer to different pictures, the first motion vector is scaled according to the temporal distance between the pictures so as to generate the predicted vector.
