Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to a method and system for damage localization on surfaces made of composites and metals. State-of-the-art methods for ultrasonic guided wave-based damage localization provide a reasonable accuracy. However, accuracy of prediction based on minimum number of observations is not yet achieved. The disclosed method provides damage localization by capturing response to the ultrasonic tone burst transmitted by a plurality of active piezoelectric sensors. The disclosed method provides a modified RAPID algorithm that considers an attenuation of the ultrasonic guided waves and factors energy of transmitted and received signals while predicting damage location. The method provides iterative grid search reduction mechanism to predict damage on the surfaces made of composites and metals.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a non-invasive and acoustic signal-based approach for examining a quality of SEI formation for any given battery cell and providing an objective assessment thereof. In one example, the objective assessment may be provided as a score that may be referred to as a Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) score for a given battery cell. In one aspect, a method includes transmitting acoustic signals through a battery cell via one or more first transducers, receiving response signals in response to the acoustic signals at one or more second transducers, determining a score indicative of quality of SEI formation in the battery cell based on analyzing the response signals, and outputting the score.

Abstract: An integrated circuit includes one or more central processing unit (CPU) cores configured to cause a first ultrasonic transducer to generate ultrasonic signals into a fluid moving in a pipe and the first or a second ultrasonic transducer to receive the ultrasonic signals from the fluid. The CPU core(s) also compute a first value indicative of at least one of a standard deviation and a time correlation based on the received ultrasonic signals. The CPU core(s) further determine a second value indicative of a volume of gas bubbles in the fluid using the computed first value indicative of the at least one of the standard deviation and time correlation.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a structure evaluation system according to an embodiment includes a plurality of sensors, a position locator, a corrector, and an evaluator. The plurality of sensors detect elastic waves generated from a structure. The position locator locates the position of a generation sources of a plurality of elastic waves on the basis of the plurality of elastic waves detected by the plurality of sensors. The corrector corrects information based on the position locating performed by the position locator using a correction value set in correspondence with an impact. The evaluator evaluates a deterioration state of the structure on the basis of the corrected information.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system and method for real-time visualization of a material during ultrasonic non-destructive testing. The system includes a graphical user interface (GUI) capable of showing a three-dimensional (3-D) image of a composite laminate constructed of a series of two-dimensional (2-D) cross sections. The GUI is capable of displaying the 3-D image as each additional 2-D cross section is scanned by an ultrasonic testing apparatus in real time or near real time, including probable defect regions that contain a flaw such as a hole, crack, wrinkle, or foreign object within the composite. Furthermore, in one embodiment, the system includes an artificial intelligence capable of highlighting defect areas within the 3-D image in real time or near real time and providing data regarding each defect area, such as the depth, size, and/or type of each defect.
