Abstract: Couplings for coupling pre-cast construction segments together and pre-cast construction segments having such couplings. A construction coupling for connecting prefabricated segments includes a pair of anchors. Each anchor includes a central portion and a pair of legs. The central portion defines an elongated bore. The pair of legs extending from opposite sides of the central portion. Each leg extending in a direction generally transverse to the elongated bore and having a proximal end attached to the central portion and a free distal portion disposed away from the central portion. The construction coupling also includes a pin adapted to be received in the elongated bores of the pair of the anchors to connect the pair of anchors together.

Abstract: A method and a structural element for the construction of a directionally flexible and watertight tunnel lining (1) or tunnel course (1), the method using pre-fabricated elements of concrete or sandwich structure (3, 4, 5; 73;73′). Interspace between such elements and extending transversely of the direction of the tunnel course or tunnel lining receives an interspace cast (14) using an outer flexible formwork (2) in the form of skirts (2′, 2″) attached to the outside of the elements (3, 4, 5; 73, 73′), and which through interconnection (11) thereof form a flexible, “bag-like” formwork (2) on the outside of the elements (3, 4, 5; 73, 73′). Together with conventional formwork (12) on the inside of the elements (3, 4, 5; 73, 73′) there is formed a defined cavity (13) which can be filled with injectable mass of concrete. After the concrete has hardened it will provide support to the installed elements (3, 4, 5; 73, 73′) as well as providing support relative to exposed surface portion of rock surface (10). The elements (3, 4, 5; 73, 73′) can be provided on the outside with a membrane (17). Further, the elements can be provided with injection paths (16) in order to at any time establish a completely watertight tunnel lining (1).

Abstract: A tunnel liner used for a shield tunneling method for a tunnel having a diameter of 1.5 to 7 m is fabricated by dividing a ring-shaped liner into a plurality of parts in the circumferential direction. The tunnel liner is required to be excellent in the dimensional accuracy with respect to the outer peripheral surface, to be tight, to be high in strength, and to be high in water tightness at the abutment between the adjacent liners. The tunnel liner is fabricated by a method of filling each arcuate enclosed hollow form with concrete, vibro-compacting concrete, molding the end surfaces of the tunnel liner, mounting the forms within a centrifugal molding drum, and tightly molding the outer peripheral surface of the forms by applying of a centrifugal force. According to this fabrication method, it is possible to effectively fabricate an excellent tunnel liner at a low cost.

Abstract: A device for joining two members together such as concrete segments for a tunnel lining ring includes a first sleeve for fitting in one of the members to open at a surface thereof and a second sleeve for fitting in the other member. A connecting pin with external ribbing fits in both sleeves, which have internal ribbing, the ribbing of the connecting pin and/or the ribbing of at least one of said sleeves being of resilient material and extending in a substantially parallel direction at an inclined angle to a longitudinal axis of the connecting pin when it is, in use, inserted in the sleeves. The bore of one sleeve is of greater cross-sectional area in one dimension than the bore in the other sleeve, in which other bore the connecting pin can engage as a tight fit, while being able to engage in the firstmentioned bore and traverse it in said one dimension.

Abstract: The invention relates to a constructional element such as a tunnel lining, part of which is shown in the drawing, comprising adjacent segments which have facing surfaces between which there is a joint which is physically deformable under load. The joint comprises a toroidal body or tube of substantially circular cross section received in complementary or semi-circular facing recesses in the surfaces respectively, and comprises a flexible material such as polypropylene and which means in the form of a nozzle for gaining access to the interior of the body. The body is initially filled with a fluid, which could be a liquid or gas, through the nozzle, which can then be maintained in the body by closing the nozzle as by a valve. When round in which the tunnel is set has settled, the joint is "locked up" by passing a flowable settable material such as a cementitious mortar material from a grout pump into the body, which thereby displaces the fluid which passes out of the body through an outlet which may be part of the nozzle, may be a separate nozzle, or may be the bleed valve.
