摘要: A method for rapidly forming composites by rotating an alterable male mold to wrap a plurality of continuous and intermittent layers of uncured laminate around the male mold when in a closed position and allowing the male mold to be moved into a female mold and to thereafter sever all layers on the male mold into an open position which thereafter transfers the resin matrix composite to a female mold which shapes the composite in a desired configuration and thereafter heat cures the composite lay-up material while being subjected to a vacuum. A second embodiment of the invention uses a non-rotatable male mold.

摘要: An apparatus is disclosed for rapidly laying up and curing thick complex shaped resin matrix composites connected to a rotatable and alterable male mold to wrap a plurality of continuous and intermittent layers of uncured laminate around the male mold when said mold is in a closed position; moving the male mold into a female mold and thereafter severing all layers on the male mold and articulate the male mold to an open position which shapes the upper regions of the composite and thereafter transferring the resin matrix composite to a female mold which shapes the composite in a desired configuration and thereafter heat cures the composite lay-up while being subjected to a vacuum. A second embodiment of the invention uses a non-rotatable male mold.

摘要: A method and apparatus for forming expandable and collapsible shielding material wherein adhesive is applied to one side of a flat tubular strip which is wound around support wheels, the adhesive bonds together successive layers of strip to form a continuous loop of stacked strip. During the winding of the strip, the strip is maintained in a flat, straight condition for a time sufficient to allow the adhesive to achieve an initial set, thereby preventing the final product from having a curved set. After the desired number of layers are wound into the loop, the loop is removed and cut through at one point to form a single, straight stacked section of definite length which is expandable and collapsible to form a shielding or insulating material having parallel hollow cells running perpendicular to the direction of expansion and collapse.

摘要: A method for producing a composite structural beam, particularly a sine wave beam, is disclosed utilizing as an essential feature, the bonding of the junctures of the sine wave web to the opposite flange areas of the beam with a fibrous braided material. The braiding is carried out during assembly of the composite web and composite flange components, prior to curing the components. In one embodiment the braided material extends along the entire height of the web, as well as along the flange areas, and is bonded thereto. In another embodiment the braided material does not extend along the entire height of the web, but only along the opposite edge portions of the web adjacent the junctures thereof with the flanges, the central portion of the web having no braided material applied thereto.

摘要: A pair of jaws moveable with respect to one another whether mounted in a hand held sealer or desk mounted sealer, compresses, heats, elongates, spreads and welds liquid filled tubing placed therebetween. Variants of the pair of jaws provide means for serially or simultaneously segmenting the tubing into a plurality of sealed compartments. The pair of jaws are electrically connected to a source of RF energy as the plates of a variable capacitor in an RF resonant circuit. The flow of RF energy across the pair of jaws, which energy heats the tubing and, in conjunction with mechanical pressure, makes the weld, is a function of timing and of the spacing between the jaws which spacing affects the degree of resonance of the RF resonant circuit. Simultaneous with the heating of the tubing, the configuration of the pair of jaws compresses the tubing placed therebetween and focuses the RF energy in a narrow swath across the tubing while simultaneously elongating and spreading the tubing at the swath to obtain a leak free weld, which weld is configured to provide for separation of the sealed compartments without tearing or rupturing the compartments.

摘要: A method of preparing resin sheets reinforced by glass and carbon strands is described in which the glass strands are passed through a resin bath. The glass strands are passed through a die as they emerge from the bath to control their resin content and wound on a mandrel. The carbon strands are passed directly into the die and are wetted by the resin in the die and on the mandrel. The glass and carbon strands are laid on the mandrel with resin to provide a resin sheet containing 5 to 70 percent glass by weight and 60 to 5 percent carbon strand by weight.
