In the present invention, a pressed portion of the cylindrical portion, pressed by a forming roller is moved from an opening end side of the cylindrical portion to a root portion side thereof according to each phase. For example, the pressed portion of the cylindrical portion pressed by the forming roller includes two sections, namely a first phase-pressed portion positioned on the opening end side of the cylindrical portion and a second phase-pressed portion positioned on the root portion side thereof. Previously, the first phase-pressed portion was pressed by the forming roller to be thinned and extended, and after that, the second phase-pressed portion is pressed by the forming roller to be thinned and extended, so that the cylindrical portion obtained by the above steps is not widened toward the end.

In a sheet metal member having a boss which is obtained by the method of the present invention, a cylindrical portion is formed at an outer peripheral edge, thereby allowing the member to be used as a pulley for a flat belt, a V belt or a poly-V belt. According to the present invention, when the boss is to be formed, the positional accuracies of portions other than the boss with respect to the boss are improved. The present invention includes: a boring step of opening a circular hole in a circular blank; a curving step of shaping the circular blank into a projected shape; and a bending step of restricting a radially outward spread of an outer peripheral edge portion of the circular blank which has undergone the curving step, and bending an inclined portion between the outer peripheral edge portion of the circular blank and the circular hole into a recessed shape, thereby forming the case-like boss. After the boring step and the curving step are conducted in an arbitrary order or the boring and curving steps are simultaneously conducted, the bending step is conducted while the circular hole is positioned to a reference position by a projection of a mold.

The present invention relates to a method of producing a sheet metal pulley for a V belt without cutting which may impair the environment of a factory. A sheet metal pulley for a V belt which is obtained by the production method of the present invention has plural valley portions around which V belts are to be wound. In the production method, an annular first valley portion which is opened in a V-like shape is formed by slitting a root portion of a cylindrical portion of a sheet metal cylindrical member and an outer periphery of a base plate portion continuous to the root portion. A cylindrical portion continuous to the first valley portion is elongated in the axial direction while being thinned, thereby forming an intermediate shaped member, and, while applying a pressing force in the axial direction to the cylindrical portion of the intermediate shaped member, an intermediate portion in the axial direction of the cylindrical portion is pressed in a radial direction to be inwardly bent, thereby shaping the pressed place into an annular second valley portion. When the cylindrical portion of the sheet metal cylindrical member is sufficiently long, the elongation of the cylindrical portion is not required.

The present invention relates to a method of forming a key portion on a sheet metal member, the key portion being useful in coupling of a shaft to a member such as a pulley used in an automobile. According to the method of the invention, an inner metal part of a cylindrical portion of the sheet metal member is pressed in the axial direction so that the inner metal part is removed away and a predetermined place of the inner metal part remains, the remaining metal part being used as the key portion. Pressing the inner metal part in the axial direction of the cylindrical portion can be conducted by a pressing process in which a pressing die is moved in the axial direction of the cylindrical portion. A key portion can be easily formed on the cylindrical portion, and an inner flange can be formed together with the key portion. Therefore, a member having a cylindrical portion which has a key portion and an inner flange can be provided without using a casting process, as a lightweight sheet metal member which is tough and economical.
