Abstract: A user equipment is initially camped on an LTE/E-UTRAN cell (205). An eNodeB informs (210) the UE to return after circuit-switched fall-back, CSFB, and optionally provides re-direction/re-selection information. The UE then performs a CSFB (215) with a NodeB of a legacy network cell, such as GERAN/UTRAN/CDMA2000 cell. Upon release of the CSFB connection (220), the UE uses (230) the received re-direction information to identify a best cell candidate in LTE, and select back (235) to the LTE/E-UTRAN carrier.

Abstract: A cellular terminal detects any capability reporting trigger and responsively to such determination produces a cellular network authentication capabilities message indicative of cellular network authentication capabilities available for the terminal; and transmits the cellular network authentication capabilities message to the cellular network. The cellular network receives the network authentication capabilities message from a cellular terminal, selects a cellular authentication algorithm based on capabilities indicated by the network authentication capabilities message; and performs cellular authentication with the cellular terminal using the selected cellular authentication algorithm.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are described for reducing delay when making a network connection between user equipment (UE) and a network node when a tracking area update (TAU) request has been denied during LTE reselection. Following a revised signaling protocol, a UE can avoid activation of a NAS Attach Retry timer and move directly to establishing a connection to the network, reducing the UE communications delay from about eleven seconds to less than one second.
