Genetic diseases can be diagnosed by detection of mutations in causative genes. Protein truncation assays can be used to detect gene products of truncation-type mutations. However, the sensitivity of the assays is often insufficient to detect mutations present in a sample of DNA at a low frequency. Sensitivity can be increased by dividing samples so that the signal generated by a mutant allele comprises a larger fraction of the total alleles than prior to dividing. Thus a previously undetectable signal generated by the mutant allele can become detectable in the assay. Such increased sensitivity permits detection at early stages and in samples having high levels of other alleles.

A system and method for optimizing tissue separation using modulated or duty cycle controlled waveforms on desiccated tissue, where the desiccated tissue has a high electrical impedance. In bipolar electrosurgical procedures, tissue separation is separated with the application of an electrical signal. When tissue does not completely separate and becomes desiccated, generator may generate a duty cycle controlled waveform with specified duty cycle and frequency or modulated waveform. Modulated waveform is generated by adding or multiplying one or more waveforms together. Modulated or duty cycle waveforms create power pulses with higher voltages and a low RMS value. Power pulses drive power and create heat in the high impedance tissue. The creation of heat helps to mobilize water content adjacent to the desiccated tissue. The heating and mobilization of water induces motion into the tissue and aids in the complete separation of tissue while keeping the RMS power low.

If a hydraulic system has several modes of operation, in particular a mode with a high pressure demand (II) and a mode with a high fluid flow demand (II), the hydraulic fluid pump has to be built with an accordingly high fluid flow output. Such a pump is expensive. Therefore it is suggested, to provide two pumps. I.e. a controllable main pump (2) is provided, which supplies the hydraulic consumer (6) during phases (I) of high pressure demand. During phases (II) of high fluid flow demand, normally, relatively low pressures are sufficient. Therefore, it is suggested to provide a parallel boost pump (9), which supplies the hydraulic consumer (6) in addition to the high pressure pump (2), if a high fluid flow is needed. Excess fluid flow output is avoided by controlling the fluid output flow of main pump 2.

A flow path switching valve is disclosed that can be operated remotely simply by turning flow on and off. A mid portion of the body has at least one passage therein leading from a central axial bore to one or more external ports each having a tractor nozzle. The valve outlet connects the axial bore to a cleaning nozzle. A poppet member is received in the central axial bore. In a first position, the poppet member directs fluid flow through the outlet to the cleaning nozzle connected to the outlet. The poppet member, when in a second position, closes the central axial bore through the outlet end of the valve body and permits fluid flow through the tractor nozzles. Selection of the different flow paths is made by simply reducing flow through the valve below a predetermined fluid flow threshold and then increasing the flow rate above the threshold.
