Impedance control, and the uniformity of electrical and mechanical characteristics in electronic packaging are becoming more important as chip and bus speeds increase and manufacturing processes evolve. Current state of the art design and manufacture processes inherently introduce physical dielectric thickness variations into PCB cross sections. These thickness variations between the ground reference plane(s) and the signal layer(s) inject undesirable characteristic impedance variations and undesirable mechanical variations in thickness and surface topology. Therefore a process of generating equalization data and a design structure for multilayer electronic structures is presented.

Search results are ranked by applying sub-relevancies within a search result list. This permits search result lists to be further refined into more manageable relevant groupings from a user's perspective. The sub-relevancies or ‘group-by’ parameters are derived from search result attributes. Attribute values from the attributes are employed in a ranking scheme to group the search results based on attribute value relevancy. The grouped search results can then be displayed to users via a search result page. In one instance users can select which attribute value is used to group the search result list. Ranking processes are based on object ranking algorithms that consider each attribute value as an object type. Some instances provide for search result list group condensing based on relevancy of the attribute values as well. A top-k instance can be employed to limit the search results to control the amount of time required for processing groupings.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for adaptively configuring the cell structure of a cell having at least two carrier frequencies between an overlaid/underlaid (OL/UL) sub-cell structure and a normal cell structure based on the position of mobile stations within the cell. A Base Station Controller (BSC) for the cell determines the position of all of the mobile stations involved in a call connection within the cell relative to the cell site. If the number of mobile stations within a predefined distance from the cell site is greater than a channel threshold, the BSC adapts the cell configuration to the OL/UL sub-cell structure. The channel threshold is an operator-defined percentage of available channels (throughout the cell or within either the overlaid or underlaid cell). However, if the BSC determines that the percentage of mobile stations closer than the predefined distance is less than the channel threshold, the BSC maintains the normal cell structure.

Disclosed are techniques for determining a path maximum transmission unit (MTU) of a communication path connecting two or more nodes of a network. A node initiates a connection with a remote node by repeatedly transmitting increasingly-larger path MTU discovery messages until the size of a path MTU discovery message exceeds the link MTU of a link within the communication path. This results in the generation and transmission of an MTU error message back to the initiating node. The edge router linked to the initiating node generates a MTU change message in response to receiving the MTU error message and multicasts the MTU change message to all local nodes to which it is linked. The MTU change message directs the receiving nodes to update their destination caches to reflect the path MTU discovered through the use of the increasing-size path MTU discovery messages and the resulting MTU error message.

US07920470B2
A network adapter and corresponding method for its use are disclosed. The network adapter has an operational mode that allows a host CPU to offload transmission of a block of data to the adapter. The adapter segments the block into fragments, and builds a data packet for each fragment. The adapter transmits these packets with an adapter-implemented flow control. This flow control uses: a context engine that tracks flow control variables for a “context” established for the block; a context memory for storing the variables; and a receive filter that updates flow control information for the block based on ACK packets received from the remote endpoint receiving the data packets. Because the network adapter implements flow control for data blocks that the network adapter segments, intermediate ACK packets corresponding to that block can be intercepted by the adapter, before they pass to the host, conserving host resources. An added advantage is that the host CPU can offload data blocks larger than the remote endpoint's receive window size, since the adapter can follow the transmit window and transmit packets at appropriate intervals. This further decreases load on the host CPU, decreases latency, and improves bandwidth utilization.

A system and method for measuring interferences are disclosed. The system is based on the concept of a composite interferometer. The sample is measured while a simultaneous compensation of the phase deviation due to the relative displacement of the optical delay component between the measurements at different pixels of the sample is performed. In the application of profilometry, the information of the surface profile of a material is obtained from the phase shift of the interference signal. By using the proposed compensation mechanism, an axial resolution at nanometer scale can be achieved. For the measurement of a thin film, a polarized probe beam is oblique incident on the sample. The system can perform a simultaneous measurement of the refractive index and the thickness of the thin film. From the ratio of the intensities of the interferograms of TE and TM waves as well as the phase shifts of the interferograms, the refractive index and the thickness of the thin film can then be obtained simultaneously.

Poly-phase filters are used to offer an efficient and low complexity solution to rate conversion. However, they suffer from inflexibility and are not easily reconfigured. A novel design for rate converters employ poly-phase filters but utilize interpolation between filter coefficients to add flexibility to rate conversion. This interpolation can be implemented as an interpolation of the poly-phase filter results. Additional approximations can be made to further reduce the amount of calculations required to implement a flexible rate converter.

The present invention relates to supramolecular polymers containing sequence-selective hydrogen bonding subunits in their backbone which form double helices. The invention allows for tuning of the numbers and sequences of donor/acceptor units incorporated in any one crosslinking hydrogen bonding subunit and hence tuning of the interaction strength not only through the amount of crosslinking material incorporated but also through modulation of the strength of the crosslinking interactions. It also allows for the incorporation of more than one type of crosslinking agent in the material allowing for multiple strengths of crosslinking which are each tunable with regard to disruption from solvent, temperature and stress. Hydrogen bond strength between oligomeric chains can be tailored through modification of the numbers and sequences of the donors/acceptors in the oligomers. The oligomers are sequence-specific and will generally only hydrogen-bond to oligomeric chains which are composed of a complementary set of donors/acceptors. The hydrogen bonded motif formed by the interacting oligomers is helical, imparting both chirality and intertwined topology to these interaction points. Because the polymer end units react with their complements through hydrogen bonding, the telechelic polymer(s) incorporating this technology are reversibly able to be processed as the bonds are first broken and then reformed. This has applications in a number of fields such as inkjet inks, adhesives, printing plates and microphase patterning of polymer surfaces.
