    Abstract: A remotely operated circuit interrupter includes: primary separable contacts coupled to an operating mechanism and a thermal-magnetic trip device structured to interrupt current from flowing to loads by opening the primary separable contacts during a fault event; and a fault current tolerant secondary switching mechanism including secondary separable contacts coupled to the primary separable contacts in series, Rogowski coils, a di/dt measurement circuit, a secondary solenoid driver, the Rogowski coils structured to continuously sense a rate (di/dt) of change of load current, the di/dt measurement circuit structured to receive a signal including the sensed di/dt, determine that the sensed di/dt has reached or exceeded a threshold current rate of change, and output a fault signal to the secondary solenoid driver based on the determination, the secondary solenoid driver structured to actuate the solenoids to fully open the secondary separable contacts using arc voltages of the primary and secondary contacts.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a triode for alternating current (TRIAC), applied to a device, is provided. A voltage is connected to an anode of the TRIAC, and a scaled down voltage is fed into an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) pin of the device. The method includes (1) tracking the voltage at the anode of the TRIAC; (2) applying a trigger pulse to a gate of the TRIAC for a preset time based on the voltage at the anode of the TRIAC reaching a threshold; and (3) detecting whether there is a dip that corresponds to the preset time in the scaled down voltage at the ADC pin of the device. The method further includes, in response to not detecting a dip corresponding to the preset time in the scaled down voltage at the ADC pin, (4) waiting an amount of time; and (5) repeating the steps (1)-(3).

    Abstract: A leakage current detection and interruption device for a power cord includes a switch module that controls an electrical connection of first and second power supply lines because input and output ends; a leakage current detection module, including first and second leakage current detection lines, which respectively detect leakage current signals on the first and second power supply lines and generate self-test fault signals in response to the first and second leakage current detection lines having an open circuit; and a drive module including at least one solenoid, a first semiconductor device forming a first current path from the first to the second power supply line when conductive, and a second semiconductor device forming a second current path from the second to the first power supply line when conductive, to supply current to the solenoid which in turn drives the switch module to disconnect the electrical connection.

    Abstract: In one aspect, a controller for managing electrical faults in a microgrid is provided. The microgrid includes electrical loads, electrical sources, and circuit protection devices that selectively couple the electrical loads and the electrical sources with each other. The controller comprises at least one processor configured to direct a grid tie switch to open to electrically isolate the microgrid from an electric grid, determine, in response to directing the grid tie switch to open, that an electrical fault exits in the microgrid, and determine whether a fault current of the electrical fault is less than a threshold value. The at least one processor is further configured to direct the grid tie switch to close to electrically connect the microgrid to the electric grid and increase the fault current above the threshold value in response to determining that the fault current is less than the threshold value.
