    Abstract: An optical phased array, device incorporating the same, and method for fabricating the same. The method, describable as a method for fabricating a three-dimensional (3D) optical phased array (OPA), includes: simultaneously etching multiple waveguide-cladding layers to form a plurality of waveguide paths, each of which terminates at a common edge; and/or generating a waveguide-cladding stack having a plurality of waveguide layers and a plurality of cladding layers, and simultaneously etching multiple layers of a waveguide-cladding stack to form a plurality of waveguide paths, each of which terminates at a common edge. The optical phased array has a plurality of self-aligned waveguide layers.

    Abstract: The disclosed flow cytometer includes a wavelength division multiplexer (WDM). The WDM includes an extended light source providing light that forms an object, a collimating optical element that captures light from the extended light source and projects a magnified image of the object as a first light beam, and a first focusing optical element configured to focus the first light beam to a size smaller than the object of the extended light source to a first semiconductor detector. The disclosed flow cytometer further includes a composite microscope objective to direct light emitted by a particle in a flow channel in a viewing zone of the composite microscope to the extended light source, a fluidic system and a peristaltic pump configured to supply liquid sheath and liquid sample to the flow channel, and a laser diode system to illuminate the particle in the flow channel.

    Abstract: An optical scan device includes an optical waveguide array, including a plurality of optical waveguides each of which propagates light along a first direction, that emits a light beam, the plurality of optical waveguides being arranged in a second direction that intersects the first direction, a phase shifter array including a plurality of phase shifters connected separately to each of the plurality of optical waveguides, a control circuit that controls a phase shift amount of each of the plurality of phase shifters and/or inputting of light to each of the plurality of phase shifters and thereby controls a direction and shape of the light beam that is emitted from the optical waveguide array, a photodetector that detects the light beam reflected by a physical object, and a signal processing circuit that generates distance distribution data on the basis of output from the photodetector.

    Abstract: Provided are a fluorescence generating device and a digital PCR analysis system including the same. The fluorescence generating device includes a clad layer on a substrate, an optical waveguide arranged in a first direction within the clad layer, and a housing which is disposed on the optical waveguide and the clad layer and has a micro fluid channel extending in a second direction. The optical waveguide includes an input waveguide which is provided within one side of the clad layer and provides excitation light to a liquid drop within the micro fluid channel to generate fluorescent light, and an output waveguide which is provided within the other side of the clad layer and has an output inclined surface that reflects the fluorescent light.

The system can include an input coupling having a first coupling ratio an output coupling having a second coupling ratio.
