摘要: A method of providing a rocker arm set for a valvetrain includes providing a first intake rocker arm, a second intake rocker arm and a first exhaust rocker arm. The first intake rocker arm is configured as a switching rocker arm for a first intake valve on a first cylinder. The second intake rocker arm is for a second intake valve on a second cylinder. The second rocker arm is configured to operate in a normal Otto cycle mode. The first exhaust rocker arm is provided for a first exhaust valve on the second cylinder. The first intake rocker arm operates in one of an LIVC or EIVC mode where the first intake rocker arm is configured to open or close at a different time compared to the second intake valve. The first exhaust rocker arm operates in a cylinder deactivation mode.

摘要: Control of engine shutdown of an internal combustion engine comprising a plurality of cylinders and, for each of the plurality of cylinders, a hydraulically controlled lost motion component operatively connected to an engine valve corresponding to the cylinder, is achieved when an engine controller determines that shutdown of the internal combustion engine has been requested. Responsive to the request for shutdown, the engine controller initiates or continues cylinder deactivation operation for each of at least one cylinder of the plurality of cylinders. The initiation or continuation of the cylinder deactivation operation for each of the at least one cylinder comprises, for an input to the hydraulically controlled lost motion component for each of at least one engine valve corresponding to the cylinder, operating the input to provide the cylinder deactivation operation for a duration at least long enough to complete shutdown of the internal combustion engine.

摘要: A method of operating an engine is provided. An exhaust valve actuation fault is detected for a first exhaust valve associated with a first cylinder during a first working cycle. In response to the detection of the exhaust valve actuation fault, fueling to at least the first cylinder is cut off. Actuation of the first exhaust valve is attempted in second working cycles that follow the first working cycle, wherein the second working cycles are not fueled. Whether or not the first exhaust valve actuated properly during the second working cycles is determined. Operation of the first cylinder is resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve actuated properly. Operation of the first cylinder is not resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve did not actuate properly.

摘要: A skip fire control system for an engine of a vehicle includes a set of sensors configured to measure a set of operating parameters of the engine corresponding to a volumetric efficiency of the engine, a set of sub-systems having a set of operational states that affect transitions between different firing patterns/fractions of the engine, and a controller configured to, based on the set of operating parameters and the set of operational states of the set of sub-systems, determine a best firing pattern/fraction by taking into account losses or penalties to transition at least some of the set of operational states of the set of sub-systems to obtain a target firing pattern/fraction, and control the engine based on the target firing pattern/fraction to maximize an efficiency of the engine.

In one example, a method may include estimating the RRI as a function of a pitch energy and a roll energy of the vehicle travelling on the road. In response to the RRI being higher than a threshold, engine operation such as EGR flow rate may be adjusted.

摘要: Although internal combustion engines typically waste about 75% of their fuel energy, this invention provides 31% or more brake horsepower than the engine alone by using anhydrous organic racing engine coolant that can spiral around a combustion chamber until heated to over 250° C. without boiling while exceeding the boiling point of a separate working fluid that is heated by coolant then superheated by exhaust gas before entering a unique positive displacement vapor expander engine having a piston connected by a clutch to power a driveshaft that is also driven by the combustion engine thereby creating a high efficiency direct mechanical powertrain avoiding losses of about 15% had a generator charged a battery to power an electric motor-generator. An electric generator connected for regenerative braking charges batteries to power a vehicle. Highly elevated coolant temperatures reduce cylinder and gas temperatures to lower emission toxicity while preventing lubricant burnout.

摘要: Methods and systems are provided for providing secondary air to an exhaust system during catalyst warm-up. In one example, a method may include, during a cold start condition, operating an engine with a first number of cylinders unfired and a remaining number of cylinders fired during an engine cycle, opening an intake valve of an unfired cylinder of the first number of cylinders during an expansion stroke of the unfired cylinder, and opening an exhaust valve of the unfired cylinder during a compression stroke of the unfired cylinder. In this way, the unfired cylinders may provide the secondary air to the exhaust system during a stroke that increases mixing of the secondary air with burned exhaust gas from fired cylinders, thus increasing exotherm production in the exhaust system to increase a temperature of the catalyst.

During and following the transition to the second firing fraction, a combustion recipe is ascertained and used operating the cylinders of the variable displacement internal combustion engine to generate the desired torque output. The recipe is preferably optimized for the engine operating at the second firing fraction, at least relative to the previous charge of the previous combustion recipe used with the first firing fraction.
