Abstract:
An apparatus and method for treatment of articles, using glass failure generated pulses. The apparatus and method is directed towards the hardening and compaction of a glass-covered elongated object that is impacted by a flyer plate having a shape that is complimentary to that of the elongated object. The flyer plate is propelled by, an explosive reaction to create the impact on the glass-covered elongated object. This results in an explosive reaction that pressure-treats the elongated object, thereby causing the hardening and compaction.
Abstract:
A machine can form a work piece into a bowl subcomponent of a steel pan musical instrument. The machine includes a pressure lid and a die mold. The die mold may be formed of non-metal layers stacked between metal layers. In example operation, a blank or work piece is inserted between the lid and die mold. The lid is pressed down (e.g., by a hydraulic ram), forcing a portion of the blank into a face groove of the die mold for sealing. Pressurized water or other fluid introduced between the lid and the blank exerts pressure on the sealed portion of the blank and stretches the blank to conform to a bowl shape of the die mold. Note regions can be introduced by this machine-performed shaping and/or by subsequent manual operations to further prepare the work piece for incorporation into a steel pan musical instrument.
Abstract:
A process for forming a sheet metal component using an electric current passing through the component is provided. The process can include providing a double side incremental forming machine, the machine operable to perform a plurality of double side incremental deformations on the sheet metal component and also apply an electric direct current to the sheet metal component during at least part of the forming. The direct current can be applied before or after the forming has started and/or be terminated before or after the forming has stopped. The direct current can be applied to any portion of the sheet metal. The electrical assistance can reduce the magnitude of force required to produce a given amount of deformation, increase the amount of deformation exhibited before failure and/or reduce any springback typically exhibited by the sheet metal component.

A reaction device for forming equipment includes a base, a reaction member movably spaced therefrom by guides, and a return gas spring carried by the base and operatively engaged to the reaction member for yieldably biasing the reaction member away from the base. The base has a return gas spring passage and guide shaft passages spaced apart therefrom. A return gas spring is received in the return gas spring passage of the base, and has a piston rod with an end arranged for contact with the reaction member. The guides include guide shafts arranged for engagement with the reaction member and disposed in guide bushings, which are received in the guide shaft passages of the base and preferably project below the base for use in locating the reaction device on the forming equipment.
Abstract:
A punching machine is provided with a tool holder for a punching tool and a die having a cutting edge which can be passed by the punching tool in a machining stroke direction and a return stroke direction. The machine includes at least one work support, supported by at least one spring element. The work support is arranged in the region of the die, and the spring force of the spring element is adjustable.
Abstract:
A roll-forming or bending machine is provided for forming an angled or rounded and simultaneously tapered hollow body or similar workpiece from a material blank. The machine has at least one tapered roll and at least one counter element, between which a forming pressure can be applied to the material blank. The one counter element has an elastic surface and is constructed as a bending table for supporting the material blanks, so that the one or more rolls apply forming pressure on the material blank on the bending table. The bending table is guided so that it can move in the longitudinal direction and can rotate about a rotational axis, and the rolls can move perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, allowing a change in the relative position of the roll and rotational axis of the bending table caused by a rotational movement of the bending table to be compensated.
Abstract:
Device for stretching a transmission chain closed in itself and comprising pairs of elongated rocker elements mutually coupled by links, said rocker elements being destined for a torque transferring cooperation with the pulley sheaves of a pulley sheave transmission, and comprising a first and a second supporting surface which support a chain to be treated over an angle of an arc and having an adjustable mutual distance to generate tensile stresses in the chain supported thereby, in which the first supporting surface is freely rotatable accommodated between the first ends of two distant frame parts, the second supporting surface is freely rotatable accommodated on an auxiliary carrier between the two frame parts, said carrier being provided with two opposite stubby shafts, protruding there from and of which the axis lies at a distance from the axis of rotation of the second supporting surface which is rotatably supported by said auxiliary carrier and lies near the second end of the frame parts while of said supporting surfaces at least one can be driven in rotation.
Abstract:
A method and assembly for punching a hole in material provided. A magnetostrictive device 14 includes a coil 26, a magnetostrictive member 22, and a punch 28 operatively associated with the magnetostrictive member 22. The magnetostrictive member 22 is constructed and arranged to lengthen, when exposed to a magnetic field created by the coil 26, thereby moving the punch 28. Material 12 to be punched is associated with the punch 28. The coil is energized to create a magnetic field and thus lengthen the magnetostrictive member 22 so that the punch 28 moves through the material 12, creating a hole in the material 12.
Abstract:
A high-pressure system for hydroshaping a hollow workpiece has a lower die and an upper die vertically shiftable above the lower die and forming therewith a cavity shaped to hold the workpiece. An upper actuating element bears downward via a vertically compressible hydraulic operating cylinder on the upper die. A spring-loaded pressure-storing cylinder is connected by a hydraulic line to the operating cylinder and to the workpiece. Downward shifting of the actuating element first closes the dies together, then internally pressurizes the workpiece via the line from the operating cylinder such that the workpiece deforms and shapes itself to the cavity, and then fills the spring-loaded pressure-storing cylinder. Subsequent upward shifting of the actuating element at first allows the pressure-storing cylinder to empty, and then entrains the upper die upward off the workpiece by the actuating element.
Abstract:
A device is provided for drawing sheet materials, in particular, sheet blanks. The device includes a cushion of elastic material disposed in an enclosure, a die for forming the sheet blank, the die having a peripheral portion constituting an upper blank holder. The device also includes a lower blank holder for supporting and maintaining at least a portion of the sheet blank which is placed directly on the cushion of elastic material and cooperates with the upper blank holder for clamping the sheet blank in at least localized zones. The lower blank holder bears against a slidable element disposed around lateral faces of the cushion.
