    摘要: A thermal protection circuit arranged in an integrated circuit for protecting a power delivery is disclosed. The thermal protection circuit for protecting a power delivery circuit includes a first thermal sensing circuit exhibiting a negative temperature coefficient characteristic for sensing a temperature of the power delivery circuit and providing a first voltage, a second thermal sensing circuit exhibiting a positive temperature coefficient characteristic for transforming the temperature of the power delivery circuit to a second voltage, an amplifier electrically connected to the first voltage and the second voltage for providing a control signal, wherein the amplifier is a function of a voltage difference between the first voltage and the second voltage, and a switch electrically connected to an output of the amplifier for limiting a maximum current passing there through in response to the control signal.

    摘要: A low loss diode ORing circuit has a feed input connected in series with a diode/transistor parallel network and the ouput. Heat is generated by the transistor when the transistor is turned on. A thermally conductive material (such as a heatsink) can dissipate heat and transfer heat from the transistor to the diode. The generated heat is transferred to the diode via the heatsink. As a result of the increased temperature of the diode and the diode's own negative temperature coefficient on conduction voltage, the diode's characteristic conduction threshold is reduced and the diode begins to conduct and share the current load as the current increases, thus providing minimal power dissipation as the current is routed to an output. A comparator may be used to monitor a voltage difference between the voltage level on the feed input and a voltage level on the output. If the difference between the voltage level on the feed input and a voltage level on the output is greater than a predetermined threshold, a problem condition is indicated and the comparator turns off the transistor via a shutdown signal to effectively isolate the feed input.

    摘要: The present invention provides a current limiting circuit breaker having a plurality of current responsive devices for opening a pair of contacts upon short circuit conditions. One such device is a conventional magnetic tripping mechanism. The other device utilizes an insulating object driven by a magnetic force caused by the short circuit current. Upon opening of the contacts with the use of the insulating object, let-through current flows through a secondary contact, positioned on the insulating object, to a positive temperature coefficient resistivity element which limits the current and arcing in the contacts. In an alternative embodiment, at least one steel component is added to increase the magnetic force, thereby providing a greater force on the insulating object. An insulation component is also added to further suppress any arc generated between the contacts when going from a closed state to an open state. In another alternative embodiment, the magnetic tripping mechanism is actuated by the device utilizing the insulating object driven by the magnetic force.

    摘要: A fuse comprising a tubular fuse casing and first and second conductive ferrules located on the exterior of the casing at opposite ends thereof. The second ferrule has an opening therethrough. A first short circuit fusible element is attached to the first ferrule, and a heater is attached to the second ferrule. A time delay over-current trigger mechanism electrically connects the first fusible element and the heater to each other in series in an electrical path between the conductive ferrules. The mechanism is connected to receive heat from the heater and to mechanically interrupt the electrical path when the heater heats up under low over-current conditions. An indicator mechanism is provided for indicating when the electrical path between the conductive ferrules is interrupted. The indicator mechanism is comprised of an indicator movable from a first position wherein the indicator is substantially within the casing to a second position wherein a substantial portion of the indicator is outside the casing. An indicator-biasing element biases the indicator toward the second position. A second short circuit fusible element maintains the indicator in the first position. The second fusible element is electrically connected between the first and second ferrules in parallel within the first fusible element. The second fusible element has a current carrying capacity below said low over-current conditions.

A motor-control device includes a driving circuit for enabling rotation of the motor in one of positive and negative directions under the control of a control unit, a current limiting circuit for limiting current flow from an external power source to the driving circuit when the motor is subjected to an increase in load resistance, and an over load detector for generating a control signal that is indicative of the amount of current flowing from the current limiting circuit to the driving circuit and that is provided to the control unit, thereby enabling the control unit to deactivate the driving circuit for stopping operation of the motor when overloading of the motor occurs.

    摘要: A chip burn-in system maintains the temperature of IC-chips near a set point, while the IC-chips undergo large step increases and large step decreases in power dissipation as they are tested. The system includes a hot fluid circuit in which a hot fluid circulates from a reservoir through heat exchangers and back to the reservoir, and in which the heat exchangers exchange heat by conduction between the hot fluid and the IC-chips. To keep the temperature of the fluid in the reservoir nearly constant, the system includes an electric heater which operates with a fast response to add heat to the fluid returning to the reservoir as a function of one control signal; and an analog valve which operates with a slow response to add a cold fluid to the reservoir as a function of another control signal. These control signals cause an operating mode where heat is added by the heater, and simultaneously, cold fluid is added through the analog valve; and as a result the net temperature of all of the fluid which is entering the reservoir can be rapidly reduced. This rapid cooling cannot be obtained by the analog valve alone because the valve is a mechanical component whose speed of operation is inherently limited by mechanical inertia.

A preferred embodiment includes a device for integrating a differential power (Pdiff) equal to an instantaneous power (Pmom) minus an equipment specific limit power (Plimit) in predetermined time intervals to obtain an integrated power (Pnew). The motor is turned on or off by comparison of the integrated power with various limiting values.
