Abstract:
An electric-wire protection device includes a voltage adjustment unit that adjusts the voltage to a load, and a controller that includes a temperature calculation unit that calculates temperature information on an electric wire from a value of current, and makes the voltage adjustment unit into a shut-off state based on the temperature information. The temperature information is calculated from an amount of temperature changes based on the current value and a predetermined initial value. The controller shifts into a sleep state when a sleep condition is satisfied that includes a condition that the temperature information is lower than the initial value. The initial value when the controller returns from the sleep state is based on a convergence value of temperature in conducting energization on the electric wire at a maximum value of steady-state current.

A system and method for assessing and modeling operation of a transformer includes a controller connected to a power transformer. The controller is configured to calculate theoretical information related to operation of the power transformer, assess information related to actual operation of the power transformer, and manipulate one of more parameters associated with one or more equations used to calculate the theoretical information so that the calculated theoretical information more closely approximates the information associated with the actual operation of the power transformer. In a preferred embodiment, the controller is configured to automatically manipulate the parameters associated the theoretical calculation of operation of the power transformer although the controller may also be configured to request user confirmation of manipulation of one or more of the parameters of the equations associated with the theoretical calculations related of expected actual operation of the power transformer.

A method and device for detecting the temperature of a motor winding, a method and device for thermal protection of a motor are provided, the method for detecting the temperature of a motor winding includes: obtaining the temperature of the motor winding at a first time before a time step; calculating the temperature rise of the rotor equivalent body after the motor runs for the time step; then calculating the temperature of the motor winding after the motor runs for the time step by superposing the temperature rise of the rotor equivalent body after the motor runs for the time step on the temperature of the motor winding obtained at the first time. By the method for detecting the temperature of a motor winding, the real-time monitoring on the temperature of the winding is achieved, thus applying the ability of the motor and improving sensitivity.
Abstract:
An overload prevention system and method for an electric circuit having a plurality of components is disclosed, where each component has a set of pre-computed parameters. For each component, monitored parameters are observed; a limited value is computed using the pre-computed and monitored parameters; and it is determined if the limited value reached a limit. If the limited value reaches the limit; the system limits one of the monitored parameters. Pre-computed parameters can include time constant and rated current; monitored parameters can include current; and limited value can be component temperature. A time constant, rated current and rated temperature can be pre-computed such that the temperature stays at or below the rated temperature when the current is substantially equal to the rated current. Per unit values can also be used such that per unit temperature stays at or below unity when per unit current is substantially equal to unity.
Abstract:
A digital thermal model for compensating for error in a current transformer used in a solid-state overload relay. The thermal model implements a difference equation that determines using a low-pass filter two parameters corresponding to calibration points along an overload trip curve. The trip curve is adjusted at an ultimate trip current (one calibration point) independently of a trip time at a locked rotor current (another calibration point) of a motor protected by the overload relay. The ultimate trip current and trip time can be adjusted based on a motor full load current set by a user. Large CT error will cause the thermal model to adjust the trip time at the locked rotor current, increasing the range of acceptable CT error, allowing the overload relay to have a wider adjustment range.

The controller is configured to shut off the electrical device if certain sensed thermal values exceed predetermined values.
Abstract:
With a wire protection method in accordance with the present invention, the method being used for supplying electric power from a power source to a load, an applied-current to the load is detected every predetermined time, A wire rise temperature is calculated using the detected applied-current I(n) and by a relational expression concerning heat radiation and heat generation of the wire. The calculated rise in temperature is added to a reference temperature so that a wire temperature is estimated. When the estimated wire temperature is lower than a predetermined upper limit temperature, the calculation of the rise in temperature is repeated. When the estimated wire temperature has become equal to or higher than the predetermined upper limit temperature, the electric power supply from the power source to the load is stopped so that the wire is protected.
Abstract:
In a method for thermal monitoring of a converter the temperature of the converter is measured. In addition, the output power of the converter is determined. The temperature of the converter is estimated by means of a thermal model of the converter having the output power as an input variable. The estimated temperature is compared with the measured temperature, and a corresponding monitoring signal is provided.

A load circuit disconnection detector includes: a current sensor (16) for detecting current flowing through a wire (W1) of a load circuit; and a protective device (100) for estimating temperature of the wire (W1) based on the detected current and forcibly turning off a semiconductor switch (Q1) if the estimated temperature of the wire reaches threshold temperature. The load circuit disconnection detector determines that there is a connection failure in the load circuit if a temperature increase calculated by a temperature calculation unit (24) is zero even a predetermined time (P1) after the semiconductor switch (Q1) is turned on.

The invention relates to a method for detecting an overload in an electric hand tool (10) comprising an electric motor (12), in particular a battery-driven electric hand tool (10). According to the invention, an operating current (iB) of the electric motor (12) is determined, the difference (ID) between the value of the operating current (IB) and at least one stored current value (IG) is determined and a thermal overload of the electric hand tool (10) is deduced from said difference (ID). The invention also relates to a corresponding monitoring device (22).
