    摘要: The design of the triggering circuit 1 of the overvoltage protection, connected via three poles 4 to the spark gap of the overvoltage protection, provided with the first input terminal 2 and the second main terminal 3, whose principle consists that an auxiliary electrode 7 of the spark gap 4 is connected in series to the first varistor 8 and one end of the secondary winding 14 of the transformer 13, the other end of which is connected to the second main electrode 6 of the spark gap 4 and the second input terminal 3, whereas one end of the primary winding 15 of the transformer 13 is connected in series to the gas discharge tube 10, the second varistor 9, resistor 11 and capacitor 12, connected to the other end of the primary winding 15 of the transformer 13, connected to the second input terminal 3, whereas the junction connecting the second varistor 9 to the resistor 11 is interconnected with the junction, connecting the first input terminal 2 to the first main electrode 5 of the spark gap 4. The advantage of such a design of the triggering circuit 1 of overvoltage protection resides in the thermosensitive disconnector 17 coupled with the thermal coupling 16 to the second varistor 9, is either connected in series to the second varistor 9, or connected to the link of the junction connecting the second varistor 9 to the resistor 11 and the junction connecting the first input terminal 2 to the first main electrode 5 of the spark gap 4, or that the thermosensitive disconnector 17 is connected between the primary winding 15 of the transformer 13 and the gas discharge tube 10.

    摘要: An electrically conductive device (6) is positioned in the vicinity of a lightning rod point (1, 2), where it is electrically isolated from the lightning rod (1) and the ground conductor (3). This device (6) comprises a first component (7) extending radially from the lightning rod (1) and having terminal spikes (8, 9, 10) for facilitating the adjustment of said component to the potential of the surrounding atmosphere. The device (6) also comprises a second component (11) terminated by an electrode (12), which is positioned at a sufficiently short distance from the lightning rod (1) and in such a manner that a discharge takes place between the electrode (12) and the lightning rod (1) as a result of the voltage developing across the gap between said conductive device (6) and the lightning rod (1).The advantage of the system is that the efficiency of the lightning protector is greatly improved by comparison with lightning protectors provided with a radio-active source, while operating without such a source.

    摘要: A spark gap device for precise switching of an energy storage capacitor into an exploding bridge wire load is disclosed. Niobium electrodes having a melting point of 2,415 degrees centrigrade are spaced apart by an insulating cylinder to define a spark gap. The electrodes are supported by conductive end caps which, together with the insulating cylinder, form a hermetically sealed chamber filled with an inert, ionizable gas, such as pure xenon. A quantity of solid radioactive carbon-14 within the chamber adjacent the spark gap serves as a radiation stabilizer. The sides of the electrodes and the inner wall of the insulating cylinder are spaced apart a sufficient distance to prevent unwanted breakdown initiation. A conductive sleeve may envelop the outside of the insulating member from the midpoint of the spark gap to the cap adjacent the cathode. The outer metallic surfaces of the device may be coated with a hydrogen-impermeable coating to lengthen the shelf life and operating life of the device. The device breaks down at about 1,700 volts for input voltage rates up to 570 volts/millisecond and allows peak discharge currents of up to 3,000 amperes from a 0.3 microfarad energy storage capacitor for more than 1,000 operations.

    摘要: An electrical protector device (10) for grounding excessive voltage and excessive current to safeguard telecommunications circuits includes a heat coil assembly (100) for sensing and directing excessive current to ground, and a spark gap arrester (200), axially aligned with the heat coil assembly (100), for sensing and controlling excessive voltage. Whenever an overcurrent condition is encountered, heat coil mechanism (110) is displaced to provide metallic contact of the incoming line to a ground structure (300). In addition, the device is adapted to provide protected testing of both incoming pairs and office equipment. Two test points (123) formed as part of the heat coil assembly (100) are in contact with the individual wires of the incoming line. These two test points are accessible through apertures (402) in the protector housing (400).

    摘要: A method and apparatus for initiating an electrical discharge in a formation of flowing inert gas disposed adjacent the end of an active electrode by generating charged particles in the vicinity of said inert gas formation. The charged particles are generated by an auxiliary electrical discharge produced between the active electrode and a surrounding tube, which is not connected to any external source of biasing potential. Electrostatic charge is generated on the tube as the inert gas flows thereby. This charge bleeds off the tube through inwardly pointed tips on the tube, which act as discharge points. The charge then passes to the active electrode via the auxiliary discharge through the gas.

    摘要: Discharging gap structures are disclosed including two discharge electrodes disposed in divergently spaced, opposite relationship. End portions of the electrodes define a minimum gap size and each have a radius of curvature less than the minimum gap size. The radius of curvature is not greater than 0.3 of the minimum gap size and smaller than that of the other end portions of the electrodes defining a larger gap size. An arc-extinguishing plate may be positioned 15 mm or more from the electrodes with a space adjacent the electrodes filled with 0.1 gram or more of SF6 gas.
