摘要: A pontoon structure is described that may be floated on a body of coolant liquid, together with others in an array. The entire array may be aligned with the sun in an azimuth direction, and each pontoon may be rotated to align it with the sun elevation. A solar energy conversion target, typically a photovoltaic conversion device, may be mounted on a portion of the pontoon structure that remains below the coolant level over a wide range of sun elevations. An asymmetric focus lens may be used to direct light entering the pontoon toward the conversion target. A lens to improve the uniformity of light directed to a conversion target is also described that is useful with pontoons, and can be configured to improve target illumination uniformity, particularly in the presence of partial shadowing, by directing light uniformly toward the target from each of a plurality of subregions.

摘要: An inexpensive sheet with excellent evenness and a desired uniform thickness can be obtained by cooling a base having protrusions, dipping the surfaces of the protrusions of the cooled base into a melt material containing at least one of a metal material and a semiconductor material for crystal growth of the material on the surfaces of the protrusions. In addition, by rotating a roller having on its peripheral surface protrusions and a cooling portion for cooling said protrusions, the surfaces of the cooled protrusions can be dipped into a melt material containing at least one of a metal material and a semiconductor material for crystal growth of the material on the surfaces of the protrusions. Thus, a sheet with a desired uniform thickness can be obtained without slicing process.

摘要: A method and system for electronic circuit design selection by interactive visualization. The present invention is particularly appropriate for learning the performance and behaviour of analog circuits, and for selecting a preferred design from a dataset of candidate designs derived from a multi-objective optimization. The method consists of providing a multidimensional dataset from a multiobjective optimization, or otherwise. The multidimensional dataset is then displayed as a plurality of plots. The plots can be one-dimensional, or multi-dimensional, and can include parallel coordinate plots. By modifying at least one of the plots, the user can interactively select an evaluation dataset for further evaluation or testing. The modification can take the form of interactive filtering to reduce the dataset in a desired manner. Typically, this is done through a graphical interface, by visual selection, brushing, etc. It can also include defining or constructing constraints of one or more variables in the multidimensional dataset. The constraints can include linear and non-linear. This modification and selection process can be repeated as necessary to further restrict the dataset to a manageable number of candidate designs.

摘要: A thermal sensor for low level radiation with built-in photo-thermal gain utilizing a thin film of pyro-optical material to modulate the reflectivity and/or transmission of a photonic carrier beam. The photonic carrier beam is modulated by the temperature of the pyro-optical film and detected by typically a silicon detector. A slight temperature increase of the pyro-optical film due to absorption of low level radiation increases the coefficient of absorption of the photonic carrier beam which in turn causes a further increase in temperature of the pyro-optical film. The photonic carrier beam provides power to increase the temperature of the pyro-optical film beyond the heating caused by the absorption of low level radiation alone. This thermal amplification effect provides a radiation sensor with photo-thermal gain.

In one aspect, the conversion module includes a reception surface comprising a planar array of at least one photovoltaic solar cell. In another aspect, the conversion module includes a reception surface coupled to a thermal cycle engine. The mechanical output of the thermal cycle engine drives an electric generator.
