    摘要: A glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium has a textured surface having numerous grooves extending in the circumferential direction of the glass substrate. The average roughness of the textured surface is 0.4 nm or less. The number of the grooves is 15 or more per micrometer. The average depth of the grooves is 2 nm or less. The grooves are formed by mechanical texturing using a texturing liquid applied between a texturing tape and the surface of a blank glass substrate rotating. The texturing liquid is an aqueous dispersion of fine diamond abrasive grains.

Thus, new program can be installed into computer only by exchange of the disc cartridge.

    摘要: An optical recording medium wherein a land and a groove are formed in both front and rear surfaces of a circular disk-like substrate respectively, at least a recording layer and a dielectric layer are formed on the surfaces of the substrate, and a hub is provided in only one of the surfaces and recording/reproducing are conducted by using a flying optical head, the optical recording medium being characterized in that in a state that the medium is supported by the hub so that the hub-attached surface directs downward, and in a region from the innermost periphery to L/3, where L is a distance from the innermost periphery to the outermost periphery of a recording/reproducing area, the center of curvature in a radial direction of that region exists at an opposite side with respect to the hub-attached surface of the optical recording medium, whereby the optical recording medium of high reliability wherein the distance between the flying optical head floating above the surface of the recording medium and the surface of the recording medium can be kept constant; uniform recording/reproducing signals can be obtained, and head crushing seldom occurs.

    摘要: A magnetic data storage medium is provided that has a substrate surface with regularly spaced, continuous ridges and grooves thereby to enhance the magnetic layer crystallization orientation. Data storage tracks extend longitudinally along the ridges, the grooves between adjacent ridges providing separation between data tracks on either side of each ridge. To form the substrate surface a focused laser beam is continuously applied to the substrate in a path of generally circumferential direction on the disk surface between inner and outer radii of a data storage zone while the substrate is rotated at a relatively constant first speed and the focused beam is moved radially at a relatively constant second speed.

    摘要: A base plate for a suspension assembly in a hard disk drive wherein the base plate has a hardened flange and soft hub. The base plate is stamped in a progressive die in a sequence of forging and coining operations. The base plate is subsequently fully annealed to allow the material to yield at a low stress level so that the hub will create a press fit against the inner wall of an actuator arm boss hole. The base plate is passed through a secondary coining operation following the annealing step to work-harden the flange portion only. The result is a base plate with a flange portion that is hardened and a hub portion that is softer than the flange portion. The advantage is that the hardened flange is more resistant to deformation of a load beam welded thereto and the hub is more disposed to plastically deform and harden during swaging which is desirable for maintaining a press fit.
