A data storage cartridge includes a data storage device and the data storage device includes a storage medium and a power supply. A transfer station includes an interface capable of mating with the data storage cartridge to perform data transfer operations with respect to the storage medium in the data storage device. A gripper assembly includes an interface capable of engaging the data storage cartridge and supplying power to the data storage device power supply. The gripper assembly further includes movement electronics for moving the data storage cartridge to the transfer station and inserting the data storage cartridge in the transfer station.

摘要： In an essentially flat contour linear tape recording head, a nominal tape wrap angle exists at which reading signals from the magnetic tape ceases and/or commences. This nominal tape wrap angle can be easily determined by monitoring a prerecorded signal, such as the servo track signal, while the tape wrap angle is adjusted. When the signal ceases (or starts, depending upon the direction of adjustment) an initial position of the tape movement control device relative to the tape wrap angle is identified. At this initial position it is known that the tape wrap angle is at its nominal value, such as approximately 0.1°. Thereafter, the tape movement control device can be knowingly adjusted with a calibrated indicator to accurately and quickly achieve a desired final tape wrap angles.

摘要： A hard disk drive comprising an actuator control system that measures the temperature of an actuator coil and methods for providing the same. The control system comprises a controller and a current source controlled by the controller that generates a flow of current through the actuator so as to reposition a transducer of the drive. The control system further comprises sampling means for sampling at least one electrical characteristic of a conducting path defined by the coil. The control system measures the temperature by monitoring the current flowing through the coil and/or the voltage across the coil and by extracting the coil temperature from the monitored values. In one embodiment, the control system obtains a measurement of the coil by successively approximating the resistance of the coil until an estimated back emf component of the voltage across the coil.

The library controller (2) has the cassette carrier (16) automatically carry, at a preset timing, a cleaning cassette from the cassette housing shelf (14, 15) to the driving apparatus (13) to clean a recording reproduction head of the driving apparatus (13) using the cleaning cassette which is then carried back to the housing section in the original cassette housing shelf (14, 15) after the cleaning work.

摘要： A technique for managing the modes of the hard disk drive to extend battery life and reduce noise. The technique may be implemented by a processor in a portable digital music player that stores audio tracks on a hard disk drive, for example. This technique includes reading a block of audio data from the disk and storing the block in a buffer while the disk is spinning. Subsequent to reading the block, the disk is spun down to a power-saving mode, while the block is played from the buffer. While the block is being played from the buffer, the technique includes monitoring the amount of the block left to be played. When the amount the block left to be played drops below a low threshold level, the disk is transitioned from the power saving mode back to a spinning mode so that data can be read from the disk before the block is finished being played from the buffer. Further, the voltage level from the batteries may be monitored, and if the voltage level is below a selected level, the disk is kept in the spinning state subsequent to reading the song from the disk to avoid a large current drain required to spin the disk up from the power saving mode.
