摘要: A method and apparatus for a home monitoring system is provided. The home monitoring system may include a command console for monitoring and processing the output of sensors. The processing of the sensors includes (1) providing a history of the sensor as an indicator to the operator of the sensor output over time; (2) analyzing the trends of the sensor to increase the effectiveness of the sensor beyond simply the current sensor output; and (3) analyzing the output of one sensor which may impact interpretation of a second sensor's output. The monitoring system may also be a prescription reminder system. The prescription reminder system may be used in homes or institutional medical facilities (assisted living or nursing homes) to provide patients with a manner to remind them to take pharmaceutical drugs at prescribed times.

摘要: A personal alert device for a user includes a portable housing to be carried by the user, a processor in the housing, and at least one sensor connected to the processor for detecting a possible physical threat to the user. The processor generates an alert message relating to a recommended course of action for the user to avoid the possible physical threat. The alert message may be an audible speech message, and a visual message displayed on a display connected to the processor. Since a person can be exposed to a variety of physical threats on any given day, the personal alert device carried by the user provides reliable detection of a possible physical threat, and by generating an alert message the user receives a recommended course of action to avoid the possible physical threat.

摘要: A multiple dimension vector-based occupancy sensor. One or more sensors (for example, ultrasonic and/or infrared sensors) are used to produce one or more occupancy estimator vectors. The individual dimensions of the one or more occupancy estimator vectors are combined using a fusion based detection algorithm to produce a combined estimator signal. The combined estimator is then used to switch electrical loads when the combined estimator signal is above a predetermined threshold. The result is an occupancy sensor that has a very high probability of occupancy detection and a low probability of false tripping.

摘要: A system for verifying the detection of a fire event by a fire detection device utilizing multiple air condition sensors includes a programmable logic circuit that evaluates whether input data supplied thereto by the sensors satisfies predetermined threshold parameters. If the input data matches one particular parameter, the other threshold parameters are decreased and evaluation frequency is increased. The circuit energizes an alarm if input data from the sensors satisfies the particular parameter and at least one of the decreased parameters or if the input data satisfies at least two non-decreased parameters. Therefore, a fire event sensed by one sensor is verified by another sensor before causing an alarm. At power-up, the circuit compares initial input data with the predetermined parameters and modifies the parameters if the input data is within respective predetermined ranges. This also decreases false alarms.

摘要: A water dispensing station includes a source of water a water temperature adjustment system connected to the source of water and adapted to adjust water obtained from the source of water, a temperature sensor positioned to sense water temperature of water in the temperature adjusting system, and a dispensing system connected to the water temperature adjusting system and adapted to selectively dispense water. A controller has processing and memory means and is connected to the water temperature adjusting system and the temperature sensor. The controller is adapted to receive and store water temperature information from the temperature sensor. The station preferably includes a display screen to display information from the controller and input means for the user to input information to the controller. The station can further include a modem so that the controller can communicate with a remote service center. Preferably, the modem is in communication with the controller via transceivers and the modem automatically receives calls from the remote service center. The controller can automatically alert the remote service center when there is a need for service such as filter replacement, component replacement, or bottled water delivery or can alert the remote service center that the user desires to be contacted by the remote service center. The remote service center can check status of the station and send message to the user such as replacement filters are on the way or bottled water will be delivered on a certain date.
