Abstract: A system for validating coins comprises a transmitter coil for transmitting low-frequency electromagnetic radiation through a coin to be validated and a receiver coil for receiving radiation having passed through the coin. An inverting amplifier is provided in a feedback path between the receiver coil and the transmitter coil thereby providing a 180.degree. phase shift. Thus, for the unique frequency which causes a 180.degree. phase shift within the coin, there is provided positive feedback, and a resonance condition occurs at that frequency. By measuring the frequency of this resonance and comparing it with a reference value, the coin can be validated.

Abstract: A coin control mechanism for use with a dispensing machine and containing a three-way adjustable price setter and a mechanical linkage to quickly change the coin control mechanism among any one of three preset prices, thus allowing for different price settings on different days. Three adjustable legs control the preinsertion position of a totalizer which calculates the cumulative total of coins inserted into the coin chute of the coin control mechanism. A three-position keyway and linkage allows an operator to quickly change the preinsertion position of the totalizer from outside of the coin control mechanism.

Abstract: The coin slide includes a fixed body with an integral flange and an integral handle and slide plate which is reciprocal on the body and through the flange. The handle is provided with a plurality of elongated openings within which are fitted interchangeable functional or nonfunctional cores. The functional cores are sized to receive coins of predetermined denomination and can be made to accommodate any size coin, even foreign coins. An interchangeable bridge includes downwardly exposed ramps or cams to accept or check coins of predetermined denomination. The interchangeable cores and interchangeable bridge are utilized to quickly and easily adjust to any desired price which can be computed when using from one to five coins. The body terminates rearwardly in a notched trailing edge whereby coins in alignment with the notches will drop first, and the drop of coins that are not aligned with the notches will be delayed.

Abstract: A price setting mechanism of a vending machine for setting one of two or more sales prices is disclosed. Merchandise dispensing devices are mounted on an operating base plate. Depending on the sales price, at least one control bar is coupled to a respective merchandise dispensing device, on the one hand, and to a release mechanism for the merchandise dispensing device on the other. To make the setting mechanism simple and clearly settable, there are fastened to the control bar or bars, guide bushings which extend transverse to the travel direction of the control bars and in which slide pins are mounted. In one position, one end of each slide pin projects into the path of motion of a control cam of the merchandise dispensing device while being outside of the path of motion of the control cam in a second position thereof. The other end of the slide pins project beyond this bushing in each one of the two positions, on the operating base plate side which is opposite the merchandise dispensing devices.

Abstract: In the improved pawls of the present invention, the tip of the first finger is provided with an edge which is inclined upwardly toward the second finger. The coins in the first chute interact with this sloping edge as the door is drawn open, instead of with the side of the finger when the coins are inserted, to produce the slight pivotal movement of the pawl which positions the second finger in the second coin chute. The improved pawl requires both a first particular combination of coins in the first chute and a second particular combination of coins in the second chute to unlock the door.

Abstract: An housing for protecting a coin sorting and control mechanism and a coin storage box for use with a vending machine, such as a newspaper stand. The housing comprises a body in which a coin sorting and control mechanism may be mounted, and into which a vending machine door latch may move for cooperation with the control mechanism to lock the door in the closed position until coinage of a preselected value is inserted into the housing. A coin return chute is in the body to return rejected coins and foreign matter to the consumer. Proper coinage will fall through a funnel and past a baffle system into a coin storage box. The body is a five-sided structure enclosed by a cover which fits closely over its top. The cover encloses the sixth side of the body. The cover and body are provided with heavy steel flanges through which a padlock can be passed to lock them together. A padlock protector may be releasably fixed to the flanges by the padlock in such a manner as to prevent a bolt cutter or other device from being placed on the shackle of the packlock to cut it open.
