Abstract: A water purifier or other liquid dispenser may sense a height of the inlet of a container accurately through an infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver that are disposed at different positions of a water discharge module moving vertically. Additionally, in the water purifier, the water discharge module may discharge purified water at a point spaced a certain distance apart from the inlet of the container, based on infrared sensing, thereby preventing the inlet of the container from contacting the lower surface of the water discharge module.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing downhole analysis within a well bore employ a swept source laser that can be sent downhole to generate high resolution images of the well bore. Various embodiments can also determine other physical properties of a below ground structure. The swept source lasers can create images using low-coherence interferometry or optical coherence tomography. Systems and methods may also be used to determine fluid flow rates towards the sensor at discrete points, such as individual perforations, by measuring the Doppler effect on the light back-scattered from the fluid. Fluid flow information could also be extracted by measuring the phase shift of the light between subsequent light scans if a phase sensitive detection scheme is utilized.

Abstract: A low-cost photoelectric machine access safety device is technically disclosed in the specification and drawings comprising an integral support structure supporting a retrodirective reflective (RDR) material facing an enclosed area which is to be guarded. A rotatable mirror causes a light beam from a reflex photohead to scan the guarded area. The RDR material reflects the light beam back along the transmitted path at varying angles of incidence. A photocell in the reflex photohead is activated to operate a control circuit to keep a control relay energized. Upon any interruption of the scanning light beam the relay is deenergized causing the accessed machine to stop. False operation preventing means prevents false operation when the light beam is scanning the portion of the support structure on which the rotatable mirror and associated apparatus is mounted. Fail-safe circuitry is also disclosed.
