The electric utility meter also includes a controller having an electronic processor, the controller configured to receive a signal indicative of a magnitude of the magnetic field proximate the electric utility meter from the sensor, determine whether the magnitude of the magnetic field exceeds a first magnitude threshold and whether a threshold flag has been set, set the threshold flag when the threshold flag has not been set and the magnitude exceeds the first magnitude threshold, determine an amount of time for which the magnitude has exceeded the first magnitude threshold when the threshold flag has been set, and generate an alert indicative of a magnetic tamper event when the amount of time exceeds a time threshold.

    摘要: A meter driving system measures a period of input signals, and operates meters based on the measured period data. When no period data arrive in a preset period of time after the last period data, the lapsed time is treated as the period data so as to renew the meter indication. The meter driving system is very responsive to a signal whose frequency is gradually decreased, thereby giving the indication with little delay.

    摘要: In a crossed-coil rotating-magnet measuring instrument having an approximately cylindrical core developed as winding form, a first and second coil are wound crossed one above the other. The second coil is necessarily arranged over the first coil in the regin of the ends of the winding form and thus has a greater height of winding than the latter. Within the core there is also provided a rotating magnet whose pointer shaft is extended out of an extension of the core. In order to reduce the linearity error of this measuring instrument and to permit a reading over several quadrants, spacer means are provided on the core for guiding turns of the coil spaced from the extension of the core around the latter in a rectangular plane in each case. In combination with this, the core is developed with a large diameter in the winding region of the first coil, said diameter being of such a value with respect to the diameter of the winding region of the second coil that the average lengths of the turns of the two coils are the same.

    摘要: A one-piece electric meter current circuit including integral current coil and meter connectors can be formed from a length of heavy wire. First its ends are thickened by axial thrust in a die, then flattened and shaped by transverse thrust in another die to produce integral cross work-hardened blades, with shoulders for abutting an elastomeric washer at the meter base plate. A preferred circuit piece is sharply bent adjacent the blades. The forming method not only eliminates all connections (which are potentially troublesome) within the electric meter current circuit, but moreover provides work-hardened, strengthened portions in crucial regions such as at the neck of the blades.

    摘要: A watt-hour meter for alternating current is adjusted for accuracy of measurement of light loads, and for accuracy of phasing. The former shiftable plate is replaced by a fixed plate combined with means for varying the current flow therein between different paths oppositely displaced from center, and independently as a total for phasing. The first current-varying means includes a loading coil connected in series with each of oppositely displaced paths. A magnetic core can be shifted between loading coils with opposite effects on the oppositely displaced paths while the total current remains approximately constant. The adjustment is by a screw having its head accessible from the front of the meter and provided with backlash prevention. The fixed plate advantageously has narrow portions serving as spacers in the potential magnet stack. A stainless steel strip forming a passageway for a balance screw is extended to provide relative insulation for, and to retain, each of the spacer portions.

    摘要: A rotor-stator capsule for use with a field-winding to form an electric motor. The rotor of the capsule comprises a slender cylinder of permanently magnetized ferrite material, while the stator structure includes a pair of stator pole pieces at opposite ends of the rotor, each pole piece has a flat portion and two salient stator poles extending perpendicularly from the periphery of the flat portion in radially spaced relationship with the rotor. A tubular dust cover surrounding the rotor serves as a part of the shading assembly used to make the motor unidirectionally self-starting and this dust cover lies in the airgap between the rotor and the stator poles and extends axially along these poles for the length of the rotor. The shading assembly also is provided with a shading member which is interwoven with the stator poles and cooperates with the dust cover to complete the magnetic circuit.
