A heating system is provided for heating fresh water on boats, marine vessels and the like. The boat's water supply is connected to a hot water tank, which in turn is in fluid communication with a heat exchanger. The coolant line for a boat engine passes through the heat exchanger, through the hot water tank and back to the engine. Heat from the engine is transferred from the coolant line to the water in the hot water tank at a rate that varies with engine operation. The heat exchanger allows additional heat transfer to the water as the coolant and water pass through the heat exchanger. A sensor regulates circulation of water through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger may be retrofitted externally of an existing hot water tank by connecting the heat exchanger to existing water lines for the hot water tank and to an existing engine coolant line to effect heat transfer from the engine coolant line.

A method and apparatus for merging the processes of hearth baking and conveyor baking to offer the benefits of the two processes while eliminating many of the shortcomings. In one aspect, the present invention is a horizontal food-grade product conveyor to transport and support food substances within or through a cooking chamber in a continuous motion. The product conveyor comprises a frame, a support structure, a drive mechanism, and rotating segments of ceramic, brick, firebrick, stone, baked clay, transite, quarry tile, or other non-metallic material which form an endless baking hearth. Each hearth segment interacts with the next adjacent hearth segment to facilitate turning around a radius while forming and maintaining a continuous, flat product support surface and preheated baking hearth. The continuous flat hearth formed by the segments allows transportation and baking of the food substances in one direction while permitting temperature recovery of the segments during the return travel underneath the formed baking hearth.

A heat-treating furnace with a magnetic field comprising (a) a magnetic field-generating means constituted by an outer, ring-shaped, permanent magnet assembly comprising a plurality of permanent magnet segments combined with their magnetization directions oriented such that a magnetic flux flows in a diameter direction, and an inner, ring-shaped, permanent magnet assembly disposed inside the outer, ring-shaped, permanent magnet assembly and comprising a plurality of permanent magnet segments combined with their magnetization directions oriented such that a magnetic flux flows in a diameter direction; and (b) a heat treatment means disposed in a center hole of the inner, ring-shaped, permanent magnet assembly and comprising a cooling means, a heating means, and a heat-treating container containing heat-treating holder for holding a plurality of articles to be heat-treated in this order from outside, wherein an axial center of a magnetic field generated by the inner and outer ring-shaped, permanent magnet assemblies is substantially identical with an axial center of an article assembly in the heat-treating container.

In a rotary hearth furnace for producing reduced metal through heating and reducing carbon containing materials composed of at least metal oxide-containing material and carbon-containing reduction material, a hearth structure is provided by which a refractory in a hearth lateral end is not damaged and carbon containing materials do not fall down to a water sealing section of the rotary hearth furnace.
