Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for converting linear motion to rotary motion are provided. In some embodiments, the apparatus may include a plate having a plurality of connection points and a channel. The apparatus may also include a wobbler having an end that extends along the first axis and a cylindrical body having a second axis that is offset from the first axis by a first angle. The plate may be rotatably connected to the cylindrical body and configured to rotate about the second axis. The apparatus may further include a plurality of flexure assemblies connected to the plurality of connection points of the plate.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an axial piston machine of a kind that has a plurality of pistons each reciprocating in a respective cylinder in a direction substantially parallel or at an angle less than 30 degrees to a crankshaft axis. The crankshaft axis presents a crank that is at an angle to the crankshaft axis and to which a reciprocator is mounted. The reciprocator effects the controlled movement of the pistons in their cylinders via a connection mechanism that connects each said piston with said reciprocator. The machine includes at least one pair of rotational constraint mechanisms to constrain the movement between the reciprocator and the pistons.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a wobble plate type variable displacement compressor that uses a constant velocity universal joint mechanism, which comprises an inner ring and an outer ring, balls that are held between guide grooves of the inner ring and the outer ring to transmit power, wherein a wobble plate is connected and fixed to the outer ring. In the compressor, the wobble plate is provided with a cylindrical part which extends in the axial direction of a swash plate, and in the relative rotation structure between the swash plate, and the wobble plate and the outer ring, the swash plate is supported to be able to relatively rotate only in relation to the wobble plate via a bearing interposed at least between the cylindrical part and the inner diameter portion of the swash plate, without being supported to be able to rotate relative to the outer ring. With this wobble plate type variable displacement compressor using the specified constant velocity universal joint mechanism, the relative rotation structure between the wobble plate and the outer ring, and the swash plate, can be improved, workability and productivity can be improved, and the cost and weight can be reduced.
Abstract:
An axial piston fluid engine having single-acting cylinders incorporating swivel-joint attachment of the cylinders to rotary control valves wherein straight-line piston movement is established for the elimination of side forces on the pistons. The pistons and the control valves are operatively connected to a common wobble drive member and arranged in geometry of lever positions to coactively time the drive fluid into and out of the cylinders intermittently.
Abstract:
A wobble yoke mechanism for converting reciprocating motion to rotary motion (or vice versa) in which each of two yokes (4) are connected to beams (3) by bearings (10, 10', 15, 15') having only one degree of freedom. The two yokes are 90.degree. out of phase. An eccentric bearing (15), also having only one degree of freedom, is fitted to or about the nutating shaft (16) and is connected to one end of each of the yokes (3). All the axes of the pairs of bearings pass through a central pivot point (5). The axes of the pistons need not be straight nor need they be parallel with the axis of the crankshaft (12).
Abstract:
An assembly for providing socket plate torque restraint for a variable displacement wobble plate compressor includes a non-rotary Rzeppa joint. The joint has an outer race, an inner race, grooves in the races, a plurality of torque receiving balls and a cage for properly maintaining and positioning the balls in the grooves for operation. The joint is connected to an anti-rotational shaft. The shaft is mounted by the drive hub of the compressor to allow for translational axial and relative rotational motion. At least one key is received in a keyway in the anti-rotational shaft and a companion socket in the cylinder block fixed to the compressor housing. The Rzeppa joint provides the ideal kinematic restraint motion of the socket plate; the profile of the grooves on the inner and outer races and the cage having a curvature to effectively maintain the balls situated substantially in a single torque transmitting plane that bisects the joint angle. The joint effectively transmits the restraining torque to the anti-rotational shaft without vibration. The key on the shaft in turn efficiently transmits the socket plate restraining torque from the shaft to the compressor housing.
Abstract:
A rotary-to-linear motion converter comprising a frame having a roll axis, and a pitch axis passing through a common point. The axes are mutually orthogonal. The common point is positioned between an input end and an output end. An input shaft rotates on the roll axis and has an offset drive cam on its interior end. The offset drive cam has a central point positioned at the frame common point. A rocker housing has a pitch axis and a yaw axis. The pitch axis and yaw axis are mutually orthogonal and pass through a common reference point. Pitch bearings mount the rocker housing pitch axis for rotation on the frame pitch axis and position the rocker housing common reference point to be coincident with the frame common point. A rocker cam means rotates the rocker housing yaw axis and couples rotary motion from the offset drive cam into oscillatory rocker housing pitch motion. An output shaft is slidably coupled to the frame. A pivot arm translates the oscillatory pitch motion of the rocker housing into reciprocating linear motion for the output shaft.
Abstract:
A variable displacement compressor has a sleeve axially slidably mounted on an axial drive shaft and a swash plate tiltably connected to the sleeve. The angle of the tilt of the swash plate is variable by an axial movement of the sleeve and a movement of the swash plate along a guiding cam track to vary the compressor displacement. The guiding cam track is provided by a cam groove having a form of a closed loop and formed in a driving plate drivingly connected to the drive shaft and to the swash plate to transmit the torque of the drive shaft to the swash plate. A fulcrum pin is provided on the swash plate and engaged in the cam groove and is movable along the guide groove toward the drive shaft as the angle of tilt of the swash plate is decreased.
Abstract:
An electro-mechanical direct drive valve servo system for an aircraft including a drive mechanism that couples the rotary output motion of a rotary force motor to linear motion at a sliding-type valve. The drive mechanism includes a pair of axially spaced rotary members connected to the force motor and a wobble member journaled between and canted by the rotary members with axial thrust bearings interposed between axially aligned opposed planar faces of the rotary and wobble members. A radial output arm on the wobble member is connected to the valve and is constrained for arcuate nutating movement whereby controlled rotation of the rotary member effects nutating movement of the wobble member and output arm which movement effects controlled linear movement of the valve. Additional control inputs such as braking and recentering function inputs are accommodated by the drive mechanism at its input end to take advantage of the mechanism's inherent gearing force ratio.
Abstract:
A mechanism for converting rotary motion in rectilinear to and fro comprising and hinged in the housing of a crosspiece by a prestressed rod and conical bearing. An even number of bearings stacked symmetrically on each side of the center and internal cages are fitted an intermediate bush with the interposition of spacing rings, the thicknesses of the rings being so determined that the pre-stressing force is distributed equally between the bearings and causes the complete take-up of play. The invention is particularly useful in multicylinder pump mechanisms distributed regularly around a shaft and with axial pistons.
