    Abstract: A vane cell vacuum pump has a rotor, in which a plastic vane, which with at least terminal part engages the inner wall of the jacket of a pump housing, is guided longitudinally. The body of the vane comprises a duroplastic and is united with the terminal part, of thermoplastic by an injection-molding operation. With the material comprising the body, high mechanical strength is attained, while with the material of the terminal part, high wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction are attained.

    Abstract: A fluid pump cowling for attachment to at least a pair of helical drivetrain gears having teeth and lands. The cowling has a pair of sidewalls adapted to extend at least partially over the lands of a first of the pair of drivetrain gears and a curved sump wall extending between the sidewalls that corresponds generally to the outermost circumference of the first gear. A sump channel is defined between the sidewalls on the sump wall adjacent a distal end of the sump wall. The sump channel has a generally frustoconical shape and leads to a fluid outlet opening defined in one of the sidewalls. The cowling is positioned such that the teeth of the pair of helical gears mesh in an area in fluid communication with the sump channel to create an area of high fluid pressure upon rotational movement of the gears with a fluid.

    Abstract: An oil distribution system for machinery such as a vacuum pump is disclosed. The system features an auxiliary oil pump integrally mounted adjacent to one end of the vacuum pump's drive shaft. The drive shaft drives the oil pump and has a longitudinal passage extending substantially along its length in communication with the outlet from the oil pump. Oil ports, positioned at points along the drive shaft adjacent to bearings supporting the drive shaft, extend from the passage. Lubricating oil, drawn from a reservoir by the oil pump, is pumped into the passage. The oil exits the passage via the oil ports and lubricates the bearings. The oil passes into the pump cylinder where it provides an oil seal between the piston and cylinder wall. Either a rotary vane pump or a gerotor-type pump is preferred as the auxiliary oil pump.

    Abstract: A positive displacement rotary pump including a housing having an internal chamber and inlet and discharge ports, a sealing land on the housing between a downstream end of the inlet port and an upstream end of the discharge port, and a rotating group in the internal chamber defining a plurality of pump chambers. The pump chambers traverse in succession and at regular intervals the inlet port and the sealing land and the discharge port. The housing has a stationary pre-charging passage which communicates with the discharge port and overlaps the sealing land. The rotating group includes a plurality of rotating pre-charging passages which communicate with respective ones of the pump chambers. As each rotating pre-charging passage attains overlap with the stationary pre-charging passage, the low pressure of the fluid trapped in the corresponding pump chamber sealed closed in the sealing land increases rapidly and induces a pulse in the fluid in the discharge port and in the fluid system connected to the discharge port. The angular separation between the rotating pre-charging passages is randomly unequal so that the intervals between pulses are irregular. The irregular intervals between the pulses suppresses tonal pump noise.

    Abstract: An improved internal gear pump design is provided whereby the head plate includes a groove located vertically above the crescent for providing improved axial feed to the roots or innermost spaces between the idler teeth. The design of the pump also includes a stepped shaft design whereby the radius of the shaft immediately adjacent to the rotor is greater than an adjacent outboard section of the shaft. As a result, a chamber for housing the seal assembly is defined as the space between the stepped shaft portion, the annular seal plate, the outboard section of the shaft that has a lesser or reduced diameter, and the casing. The casing may also include a recess for providing sufficient space for the seal assembly. The larger section of the shaft is accommodated in a bushing mounted to the inside surface of the casing. The inside diameter of the bushing is large enough to accommodate the larger stepped portion of the shaft as well as the outside diameter of the seal assembly. As a result, the seal assembly may be pre-mounted onto its respective section of the drive shaft prior to the insertion of the drive shaft through the pump chamber.
