    Abstract: A rotating union has a plurality of fin members spaced about and extending radially outwardly from the rotor to provide an air circulation between the rotor and the bearing assembly to cool the bearing assembly. Additionally, the rotor may include a circumferential annual recess in the rotor outer wall which is enclosed by an annular sealing member to provide an air pocket or gap which insulates the bearing assembly from the hot fluid flowing through the rotating unions.

    Abstract: A spread out foraminous tow of tensioned filamentary filter material is transported through a housing between an upper and a lower rotating cylindrical brush. The upper brush propels atomized liquid plasticizer against the upper side of the tow whereby a certain amount of plasticizer penetrates through the tow and is gathered in the housing within the range of bristles on the lower brush which propels the gathered plasticizer against the underside of the tow. The rate of feed of plasticizer to the upper brush is varied in response to changes in the speed of the tow, and the brushes are arrested when the transporting rolls for the tow are brought to a standstill. The lower portion of the housing constitutes a trough which surrounds the lower half of the lower brush and from which the gathered plasticizer is evacuated when the brushes are idle.

    Abstract: Textile material such as strand, yarn, or cord is simultaneously false twisted and impregnated while in a slack (low-tension) condition by feeding the textile material in slack condition into one end of a rotating cylinder containing the coating and withdrawing it from the other end. The textile material in untwisted form and the coating are held against the interior of the rotating cylinder by centrifugal force and the coating impregnates the textile material while subjected to such force. The impregnated textile material passes through a heated tube to dry the coating on the textile material. A uniformly coated twisted textile material wrapped in low tension on a takeup package is produced.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for recovering and purifying a solvent used in an article cleaning appliance are provided. The method allows passing solvent-based cleaning fluid from a wash basket through a coarse filter configured to remove relatively large particulates from the cleaning fluid. The method further allows passing cleaning fluid from the coarse filter through a particulate filter configured to remove relatively fine particulates from the cleaning fluid. An aqueous phase that may be present in the cleaning fluid is separated by decanting and coalescing through a separator/filter assembly. The cleaning fluid may then be passed through a regeneration cartridge for removing any water that may remain in the cleaning fluid, and for adsorbing organic contaminants that may be present in the cleaning fluid. Recovered solvent may be stored in a tank for subsequent use in a cleaning process performed by the appliance.

    Abstract: Repeatable and reliable chemical treatment for loose fibers is achieved by spraying or immersing loose fibers in a chemical treatment bath, and continuously moving the soaked fibers through a continuous centrifuge. The continuous centrifuge controls the wet pickup of the chemical formulation on the fibers and assures a substantially even chemical distribution on the centrifuged fibers. The centrifuged fibers may be dried to fix the chemicals in the chemical formulation to the fibers and/or to remove water from the chemical formulation. Recycling of the chemical formulation from the continuous centrifuge allows for the process to be performed more economically and in a more environmentally friendly fashion.
