Abstract: A needle bar 4 is supported by a needle bar supporter in a manner freely movable up and down relative to a frame. A crank 2 is fixed to an upper shaft 1, rotates with the upper shaft 1, and an output end thereof moves circularly. A crank rod 3 is connected to the crank 2 in a freely rotatable manner. A connection rod 8 is connected to an intermediate portion of the crank rod 3 in a freely rotatable manner, and is connected to the needle bar 4 in a freely rotatable manner. A length of the needle bar 4 and a length from a connecting position of the connection rod 8 and the crank rod 3 to a slider 7 differ. When the crank 2 circularly moves, the connecting position of the connection rod 8 and the crank rod 3 draws a trajectory of an ellipse.

Abstract: A needle locker has a body having therein a first needle receiving hole and a second needle receiving hole. The first needle receiving hole is arranged in a direction perpendicular to the cloth feeding direction. The second needle receiving hole is adjacent the first needle receiving hole and arranged in the same direction. Abstract: Needles of a multiple-needle sewing machine are set on its needle holder so that the form which the needle tips form is not in alignment in parallel with the surface of a cloth to be sewn but deviates from the surface in vertical direction.Accordingly, since plural needles will stick into a cloth not all at once but with time lags, the forces exerted on the needles, needle holder, needle rods, etc. may be dispersed. Abstract: A thread changing mechanism for sewing machines comprises a plurality of needle holders which are received for displacement in a magazine which is fixedly mounted at the level of the top dead center of the needle bar. The needle holders have inner guide surfaces in T-configuration, corresponding to outer T-configuration guide surfaces of the coupling member which is secured to the needle bar. In the middle of the magazine, a recess is provided for the coupled needle holder. In a first embodiment, several fingers are pivotable between the needle holders to space them from each other. The coupled needle holder can then move freely upwardly and downwardly during the sewing operation. In a second embodiment, the same free movement of the coupled needle holder is ensured by a fork by which, after the coupling is effected, the needed spacing between the coupled one and the adjacent needle holders is ensured.

Abstract: A needle design and retention system in which the sewing needle is formed with a locator portion at the end of the shank that is substantially normal thereto. The locator portion may be parallel to the axis of the thread carrying eyelet and the sewing needle or may form a known angle with the plane including the needle axis and the axis of the thread carrying eyelet. The locator portion of the sewing needle extends through a transverse aperture in an enlarged end in a slabbed rod affixed to the sewing machine needle bar. The enlarged end is also grooved to accommodate a portion of the shank. A clamping sleeve is provided having an axially aligned aperture which surrounds the enlarged end of the slabbed rod and the sewing needle shank to retain the sewing needle affixed thereto. The clamping sleeve is provided with a counterbore which receives a coil spring which encircles the rod and is captured between the bottom of the needle bar and the ends of the counterbore. The clamping sleeve may be elevated against the pressure of the coil spring to enable insertion or removal of the sewing needle with the locator portion in the transverse aperture in the end of the rod and the shank in the groove therein. The clamping sleeve is automatically returned to a retaining position by the coil spring.

Abstract: A needle holding device for a sewing machine having a needle with a cylindrical shank having a flat edge surface extending along the shank includes a needle bar for supporting the needle, a needle holder mounted to the needle bar and a holding screw to fasten the needle to the needle bar. The needle bar is formed with a vertical groove defined by a horizontal wall and an inclined wall which are adjacent to each other to define a wedge-shaped space. The needle holder has a vertical circular hole having an inner periphery and a transverse hole extended into the vertical hole. When the needle holder is mounted to the needle bar the inner periphery of the vertical hole and the wedge-shaped space of the needle bar groove form a wedge-shaped chamber into which the shank of the needle is inserted. The holding screw fastens the needle upon insertion into the needle bar when the flat edge of the shank is positioned against the horizontal wall of the groove.
