摘要: Disclosed is a method of making a treatment composition. A lithium cation and carbon dioxide are combined in an aqueous medium to form the treatment composition comprising lithium carbonate in situ. Also disclosed is a system and method for maintaining a treatment bath formed from a treatment composition comprising lithium carbonate. Carbon dioxide and/or a lithium salt are supplied to the bath in an amount sufficient to maintain the pH of the treatment bath at 9.5 to 12.5, lithium in an amount of 5 ppm to 5,500 ppm (calculated as lithium cation) and carbonate in an amount of 15 ppm to 25,000 ppm (calculated as carbonate) based on total weight of the treatment bath. Substrates treated with the composition, system and method also are disclosed.

摘要: The invention relates to a process for treating a chromate waste liquid containing an organic acid component. This process includes (a) adding a chromium precipitation accelerating agent containing at least one of a calcium component and a magnesium component, to the chromate waste liquid; and (b) adjusting the chromate waste liquid to having a first pH of 9 or higher, thereby precipitating a chromium component from the chromate waste liquid and thereby reducing a concentration of a dissolved chromium component of the chromate waste liquid.

摘要: An aluminum alloy substrate is pretreated with an aqueous solution containing an organophosphorus compound, preferably a vinyiphosphonic acid-acrylic acid copolymer, before coating the substrate with a polymer. Passing the substrate through the solution contaminates it with aluminum and other elements. The pretreatment solution is rejuvenated by removing aluminum with a cation exchange resin that preferably contains a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer functionalized with sulfonate groups. Rinsing the substrate contaminates the rinse water with the copolymer. The rinse water is concentrated by reverse osmosis or membrane ultrafiltration and returned to the pretreatment solution.

摘要: In a process of forming a chromate coating on a series of articles of one of the metals, zinc, alloys consisting predominantly of zinc, magnesium, cadmium, copper, silver or brass by treating them with a single aqueous acidic solution containing hexavalent chromium in which the metal or trivalent chromium tends to accumulate in the solution during the treatment and interfere with the coating, the concentration of interfering metal is maintained at a level below that at which it deletenously affects the coating by withdrawing portions of the solution, passing them through a bed of a cation-exchange resin in a form containing both hydrogen ions and other cations that are harmless to the coating in proportions such that the solution is maintained in the effective pH range, and then returning them to the main body of the solution. The other cations may be those of alkali metals or ammonium. Treatment of the solution (which may also contain simple or complex fluoride ions, phosphate ions, sulphate ions, chloride ions, nitrate ions, ferricyanide ions, or arsenate ions) with the resin may be either continuous or intermittent; and two beds of resin are preferably used so that treatment of the solution and regeneration of the resin may be performed simultanously.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for serial surface treatment of metallic components comprising aluminum surfaces, wherein an alkaline pretreatment is followed by a conversion treatment. According to the invention, the intention during the alkaline pretreatment is that a maximum value for the concentration of dissolved zinc is not exceeded, in order to ensure a sufficient quality of the corrosion-protective coating on the aluminum surface of the components following the surface treatment. In a preferred embodiment, the content of dissolved zinc is effectively held below the respective bath-typical maximum value of dissolved zinc by the addition of compounds constituting a source of sulfide ions. The functionality of the surface treatment can be additionally increased by likewise controlling the content of dissolved aluminum in the alkaline pretreatment such that, by adding compounds constituting a source for silicate anions, a threshold value for dissolved aluminum is not exceeded.
