Provided is an optical film which has a maximum absorption at a wavelength in the range of 600 to 680 nm, has a high dichroic ratio, and is excellent in light resistance. The optical film includes: a polymer of a polymerizable liquid crystal compound; and a compound represented by the following general formula (1).

This invention provides an electrophotographic photoreceptor which is high in durability and high in sensitivity. This photoreceptor comprises an electroconductive support and, provided thereon, a photosensitive layer containing an azo pigment represented by the following formula [I] or [II]: ##STR1## wherein A represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a phenyl group or a heterocyclic ring group, m and n each represents 0 or 1, X represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a cyano group or a halogen atom and Cp represents a coupler residue, or ##STR2## wherein Z represents an alkyl group, a phenyl group or a heterocyclic ring group, X represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a cyano group or a halogen atom and Cp represents a coupler residue.

Photoconductive imaging members comprising a supporting substrate, a hole transport layer, and a photogenerating layer comprising disazo compounds selected from the group consisting of: ##STR1## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of: ##STR2## wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of: ##STR3## The photoconductive imaging members possess high cyclic stability, high photosensitivity, good dark development potential, low dark decay values, and excellent panchromaticity. They are non-toxic and may be made inexpensively, which renders them disposable.

There are described novel cationic benzothiazole disazo compounds of the formula ##STR1## K independently of one another are each a coupling component, R independently of one another are each an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl group,R.sub.1 independently of one another are each hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, or halogen,X is the direct bond, --(CH.sub.2).sub.y wherein y is a number from 1 to 4, --CH.dbd.CH--, a phenylene group, a naphthylene group, a heterocyclic radical, an --NH-alkylene-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)--NH-- radical or an --NH-arylene-NH-- radical, andAn is an anion, with the proviso that when the coupling component K is a dimethylaminophenyl radical, the divalent bridge member X is not the --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 -- group are useful for dyeing and printing textile materials, leather and in particular paper. The dyeings obtained have good fastness properties, especially good fastness on paper to light.

An electrophotographic light sensitive element is disclosed. The element is comprised of a photoconductive support base having provided thereon a disazo compound dispersed in a binder or a charge carrier-transporting medium. A novel group of disazo compounds are disclosed as represented by the general formula (I), (II) and (III) as defined within the specification. In addition to the light sensitive element the disazo compounds and electrophotographic compositions containing them are part of the invention disclosed. The electrophotographic light sensitive elements have high sensitivity and long durability.

Water-soluble disazo dyestuffs having the general formula B.sub.1 --N.dbd.N--Z--N.dbd.N--B.sub.2 wherein Z is ##STR1## wherein Y and M are the same or different and are methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy, and halogen, a and b are 0, 1 or 2, X is ##STR2## --0-- or --S--, R.sub.1 is hydrogen, alkyl having one to 4 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl, B.sub.1 is a CH-acid coupling component of the acetoacetic acid arylamide series of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.2 is phenyl, substituted phenyl, naphthyl-1, benzimidazolon-5-yl, substituted benzimidazolon-5-yl, or substituted napthyl-1, naphthyl-2, or substituted naphthyl-2, and B.sub.2 denotes a second coupling component radical wherein B.sub.1 and B.sub.2 are identical or different with the proviso that said disazo compound contains at least one sulpho group or carboxyl group in the dyestuff molecule.
