Abstract: An electronic component that has fewer cracks during production is provided. The electronic component includes an outer electrode on a multilayer body, which includes an inner glass layer, a magnetic material layer on top and bottom surfaces of the inner glass layer, and an outer glass layer on top and bottom surfaces of the magnetic material layer. The insulating layers of the inner glass layer and the outer glass layers contain a dielectric glass material that contains a glass material containing at least K, B, and Si, quartz, and alumina. The glass material content of each insulating layer of the inner glass layer ranges from approximately 60%-65% by weight, the quartz content of each insulating layer of the inner glass layer ranges from approximately 34%-37% by weight, and the alumina content of each insulating layer of the inner glass layer ranges from approximately 0.5%-4% by weight.

Abstract: Chemically strengthened glass articles having at least one deep compressive layer extending from a surface of the article to a depth of at least about 45 μm within the article are provided. In one embodiment, the compressive stress profile includes a single linear segment extending from the surface to the depth of compression DOC. Alternatively, the compressive stress profile includes two linear portions: the first portion extending from the surface to a relatively shallow depth and having a steep slope; and a second portion extending from the shallow depth to the depth of compression. The strengthened glass has a 60% survival rate when dropped from a height of 80 cm in an inverted ball drop test and a peak load at failure of at least 10 kgf as determined by abraded ring-on-ring testing. Methods of achieving such stress profiles are also described.

Abstract: Embodiments of methods for forming strengthened glass articles comprise providing an exchangeable glass substrate having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between about 60×10−7°/C. to about 110×10−7°/C., depositing at least one decorative porous inorganic layer onto at least a portion of the surface of the glass substrate, wherein the decorative porous inorganic layer comprises a glass transition temperature (Tg)≥450° C., a glass softening temperature (Ts)≥650° C., wherein the difference in CTE values between the glass substrate and the decorative porous inorganic layer is within 10×10−7°/C.; and curing the glass substrate and the deposited decorative porous inorganic layer at a temperature greater than the Ts of the decorative porous inorganic layer; and chemically strengthening the cured glass substrate and the decorative porous inorganic layer thereon via ion exchange at a temperature below the Tg of the decorative porous inorganic layer.

Abstract: A glass, glass ceramic, or ceramic bead is described, with an internal porous scaffold microstructure that is surrounded be an amorphous shield. The shield serves to protect the internal porous microstructure of the shield while increasing the overall strength of the porous microstructure and improve the flowability of the beads either by themselves or in devices such as biologically degradable putty that would be used in bone or soft tissue augmentation or regeneration. The open porosity present inside the bead will allow for enhanced degradability in-vivo as compared to solid particles or spheres and also promote the growth of tissues including but not limited to all types of bone, soft tissue, blood vessels and nerves.

Abstract: Methods for producing glass articles from laminated glass tubing include introducing the glass tubing to a converter. The glass tubing includes a core layer under tensile stress, an outer clad layer under, and an inner clad layer. The methods include forming a feature the glass article at a working end of the laminated glass tubing and separating a glass article from the working end of the laminated glass tubing, which may expose the core layer under tensile stress at the working end of the glass tubing. The method further comprises remediating the exposed portion of the core layer by completely enclosing the core layer in a clad layer. Systems for re-cladding the exposed portion of the core layer as well as glass articles made using the systems and methods are also disclosed.
