Abstract: A vertical takeoff and landing aircraft is capable of vertical takeoff and landing and horizontal flight, and includes a cabin, rotors, protectors, a connector and a hinge. The cabin is capable of carrying a crew and/or a cargo. The rotors are positioned in front of and behind the cabin during the vertical takeoff and landing. The protectors surround the rotors. The connector connects the protectors to one another. The hinge attaches the connector to the cabin such that the connector is rotatable with respect to the cabin. The vertical takeoff and landing aircraft performs the vertical takeoff and landing and the horizontal flight by the connector rotating with respect to the cabin and accordingly the rotors and fixed wings rotating around the cabin.

Abstract: An unducted fan having variable pitch blades for an aircraft or wind propulsion system is described. The fan includes a hub provided with housings pivotally receiving vanes about radial axes, and an outer casing of the hub into which circular openings of the housings open. Each vane includes a root which is rotatably mounted in the associated housing, a radially oriented blade and a disc-shaped platform extending from the blade to an edge of the circular opening. The blade includes at least one skin which includes a free lower edge facing the side of the root, wherein the platform is attached to the free lower edge of the skin.

Abstract: A compound helicopter includes a fuselage including a fuselage airframe, a translational thrust system coupled to the fuselage airframe and a pylon assembly subject to vibration. The pylon assembly includes a transmission and a rotor system having a main rotor assembly. The compound helicopter also includes a main rotor vibration isolation system including a plurality of augmented liquid inertia vibration eliminator units each having an isolation frequency and each coupled between the fuselage airframe and the pylon assembly to reduce transmission of the pylon assembly vibration to the fuselage airframe at the isolation frequency. Each augmented liquid inertia vibration eliminator unit includes at least one active tuning element movable to tune the isolation frequency thereof.

Abstract: A method for the flying of a vertical take-off and landing aircraft which uses fixed rotors for both VTOL and forward flight operations. The rotors form a synthetic wing and are positioned to achieve a high span efficiency. The rotors are positioned to even out the lift across the span of the synthetic wing. The synthetic wing may also have narrow front and rear airfoils which may provide structural support as well as providing lift during forward flight, or may have a single center wing. The wing rotors are tilted forward and provide some forward propulsion during horizontal flight.
