摘要: An air belt that includes a bag-shaped mesh webbing, a bag inserted into the mesh webbing, and a tube shaped mesh cover which covers the mesh webbing. The mesh cover includes warp yarn, weft yarn, and an connected part formed by connecting the weft yarn with an entanglement-thread at a hem. The entanglement-thread of the connected part breaks due the force of the bag expanding so that the bag and the mesh webbing expand further than the cover. The thickness of the cover is uniform across its width, resulting in a uniform bending strength of the mesh cover between the left and right hems and providing comfort to the wearer.

摘要: An occupant restraint belt for use with a seat of a motor vehicle has an inflatable section having a deflated condition wherein the belt assumes a stowed position and an inflated condition wherein the belt assumes a deployed position in which the belt is in a position making it easy for a seat occupant to see and grasp the belt in order to fasten it. The inflatable section is formed by sewing a layer of flexible material to the webbing that constitutes the main restraint member of the belt to form at least one gas-tight inflation chamber. The belt is inflated after an occupant is seated in the seat and ready to don the restraint belt. Inflation of the inflatable section preferably occurs upon activation by an electronic control system that receives inputs from one or more vehicle systems, such as a seat weight sensor, a door open/closed sensor, and/or an ignition switch. When inflated, the inflatable section is flexible and compliant enough that it will not cause any discomfort to the seat occupant if it should contact the occupant's body.

摘要: An apparatus for helping to protect a vehicle occupant comprises a vehicle seat belt system (14) including a buckle (20), a tongue assembly (90), and an inflatable seat belt portion (12) connected with the tongue assembly. An inflation mechanism (10) connected with the buckle (20) includes an actuatable inflator (60) and a first conduit (70) in fluid communication with the inflator. A second conduit (110) is in fluid communication with the inflatable seat belt portion (12). The first conduit (70) has a rupturable portion (82) blocking fluid flow out of the first conduit toward the second conduit (110). The first conduit (70), upon actuation of the inflator (60), moves from a first position in which the first conduit is not in fluid communication with the second conduit (110) to a second position in which the first conduit is in fluid communication with the second conduit. The rupturable portion (82) is ruptured to enable fluid flow from the first conduit (70) to the second conduit (110) to inflate the inflatable seat belt portion (12). Means (58) for venting erroneously released inflation fluids are also provided.

摘要: To provide an air belt that maintains a flat belt like state, enables passage through an anchor and direct winding to a retractor, and has satisfactory comfort. An air belt includes a bag, a tubular mesh webbing made of a fabric or a textile, and a hollow cover accommodating the mesh webbing. The mesh webbing expands and contracts flexibly in the lateral direction but resists stretching in the longitudinal direction. The hardness of the cover in the lateral direction is greater than the hardness in the longitudinal direction, and the cover bends flexibly in the longitudinal direction but resists bending in the lateral direction. The cover, which is flat and tubular, is formed by longitudinally folding a flat, long sheet along a folding line and seaming the longitudinal sides with a thread, the thread is broken when the bag is inflated.

摘要: An inflatable air bag, in its uninflated state, is folded against a seat belt that is secured around the waist of a vehicle occupant and is enclosed by a tubular webbing making the assembly appear as a typical seat belt. Upon a sudden deceleration of a vehicle, the air bag inflates and takes an L-shaped form against an occupant of a vehicle. A rearward protrusion from the upright portion of the L bears against the upper torso portion of the occupant. The rearward protrusion does not bear against the face of either a fifth, fiftieth or ninety-fifth percentile occupant. When inflated the air bag in addition to the rearward protrusion, has a torso section, a waist section and a lap section. The waist section functions to bear against the occupant to push the occupant back into the seat. The torso and lap sections function to push the occupant back and down into the seat. The deployment sequence of the inflation of the sections is determined by the method of folding the air bag against the seat belt. A deflation member operates to release the inflation fluid from the air bag a predetermined time after inflation of the air bag.

摘要: A seat-occupant restraining apparatus is provided which includes a bag, accommodated in a shoulder belt, for restraining a seat occupant in a seat, and when a vehicle collides, expands the bag with a high-pressure gas produced by an inflator. A relief valve, which opens according to an increase in the internal pressure of the bag, is provided in a gas passage for supplying the high-pressure gas from the inflator to the bag. If the bag is completely expanded by the high-pressure gas from the inflator and the internal pressure of the bag reaches an appropriate value, the relief valve opens and discharges an extra high-pressure gas from the bag, whereby the internal pressure of the bag can be controlled to the appropriate value without causing variations. According to the above-described constriction, it is possible to realize a stable air vent function superior to that of a vent hole, without providing a vent hole in the bag of an air belt assembly.

摘要: An inflatable seat belt apparatus is formed of an inflatable portion which is usually maintained in a band shape and has an envelope part inflated and deployed in a spindle shape by introducing a gas generated by a gas generating device, the gas generating device acting in case of exceeding a predetermined threshold, a webbing having the inflatable portion extending over at least a range directly contacting with an occupant, a tongue fixed to an end of the inflatable portion and having a gas inlet from the gas generating device inside thereof and a buckle which detachably engages the tongue. The envelope part is made of a knitted fabric expanded in the weft direction in a range of contacting the chest of the occupant when the envelope part is inflated. The inflatable seat belt apparatus includes an inflation restricting device for restricting the expansion in the weft direction besides the range.

摘要: An inflatable belt device includes a tongue having a rear end connected to an inflatable belt; a buckle with which the tongue is to be engaged; and a gas generator or inflator for supplying gas into the buckle. The tongue includes a tongue base having a gas passage or duct; a tongue plate fixed to the tongue base; and a lap belt anchor. The lap belt anchor has an L-like configuration and includes a base and a bracket, which extends perpendicularly from the base and has an opening formed therein. The base is attached pivotally to the tongue plate by a pivot pin. A sheet, made from a low friction material, may be placed between the plate and the base, thus facilitating the pivoting of the tongue. As a result of this arrangement, gas is introduced much more smoothly from a tongue of an inflatable belt device into the inflatable belt. A low pressure gas generator may thus be used.

摘要: A restraint belt for occupants of vehicles having an air bag module which is provided in the pelvic area. The restraint belt extends as a double belt in the lap of the occupant. The first section of the double belt rests directly on the body of the occupant. The second section rests at least partially on the side of the first section facing away from the body of the occupant. The belt reverses direction as it transitions from the first section into the second section. The airbag module is placed on the second section of the double belt. The configuration of the restraint belt provides for a restraint effect of any airbag at the same time that the tension of the belt is increased, and to attain an additional tensioning effect.

摘要: A restraint assembly intended for use primarily, but not exclusively, within motor vehicles to protect occupants from injury resulting from a collision, crash or other impact type of accident in which the vehicle is involved. A plurality of inflatable members are mounted at a plurality of strategic locations relative to the various positions assumed by occupants within the vehicle, such that upon the vehicle being impacted, a central processing unit or like processor structured to sense the impact will automatically inflate the inflatable members so that they assume a protective position which will interact with the occupant to actively absorb and resist the force of the impact resulting from the occupant coming into contact, at an accelerated rate, with the inflatable member(s). A restraining harness is positionable into restraining relation to one or more occupants and includes a lap belt segment, a chest belt segment and a diagonal belt segment extending in overlying relation to an occupant's frontal area and between opposite ends of the lap belt segment and chest belt segment, such that the belt segments collectively form a substantially “Z-shaped” configuration.
