摘要： A prefabricated bindable sheet having heat-responsive glue applied along one edge and a method for binding such sheets together which includes the steps of providing sheets of paper having segments of heat-responsive glue applied along one edge thereof, producing the desired information on said sheets, assembling said sheets with the glue edges in registration, pressing the registered glue edges of the assembled sheets together while applying heat to the edge thereof and alternatively, a method wherein at least certain of said sheets are double size to provide pairs of sheets connected by a fold line wherein the glue is applied to the outside of said pair of sheets along said fold line; and apparatus for attaching sheets together which includes means for clamping a plurality of sheets together which have heat-responsive glue applied along the attachment edges thereof and heating means for applying heat to the glue edges to positively connect said sheets together.

摘要： A binding tape for binding the shingled edges of sheets has a supple tough and flexible nonwoven fibrous backing coated on one surface with a pressure-sensitive adhesive and with a barrier coat to seal the backing on the other surface. A low adhesion backsize is coated on the backing to permit winding or stacking strips of tape. Tabs adhered to the ends of the strips aid in locating the strips in relation to the shingled edges.

摘要： This article attaching apparatus (10) for attaching a coin or similar object (38) to each of a sequence of continuously moving carrying sheets (14) includes a vacuum belt conveyor (24) for transporting the carrying sheets through a gumming station (26), where said sheets are provided with an adhesive area (34), to a location below a coin storage assembly (81). The coin storage assembly includes a feed tube (142) from which an individual coin is deposited onto the carrying sheet adhesive patch without interruption of the forward movement of the carrying sheet (14) by a feed wheel assembly (80) the feed assembly being mounted to a support frame (60) and disposed between the coin storage assembly and the carrying sheet. The feed wheel assembly includes a rotatable feed wheel (102) having opposed inserts (122, 124) each provided with a circumferentially disposed coin-receiving groove (134). The feed wheel is sequentially supplied with vacuum pressure and positive pressure from an air supply unit (114), which includes a stationary air valve (150 ), so that the coin is picked up under vacuum pressure from the coin tube and held during rotation to the deposit point where it is momentarily subjected to positive pressure to facilitate deposit. A spring-loaded anti-jamming device 220 is provided adjacent a cut-away portion (232) at the lower end of the coin tube.

摘要： An apparatus for lifting a signature fed on a wedge-shaped saddle to a conveyor by an upwardly and downwardly movable lifting comb, which conveyor comprises at least one pair of conveyor elements, one of them being wheel-shaped and the other one being an elongated flexible endless member which is mounted for revolving movement along an endless path. Said path is defined by deflecting means and runs along a segment of the peripheral surface of the wheel-shaped element so as to form a conveyor gap for conveying the signature lifted by said lifting comb. In a transfer station, a pressing means is provided for pressing the lifted signature to the wheel-shaped conveyor element for transferring the signature from the lifting comb to the mouth of the conveyor gap.

摘要： In an adhesive binder sheets received in an upper tray are driven past an adhesive applicator, through an inverting path and into a lower tray where the sheets are jogged and aligned. As the sheets are moved past the adhesive applicator, adhesive is applied to all but one sheet so that the sheets in the lower tray have adhesive between each two adjacent sheets. After a complete set of sheets are received in the lower tray, a bar applies pressure to the sheets in the area of the adhesive to form a booklet, and then the completed booklet is removed from the lower hopper. In accordance with the apparatus and method of the present invention, the first two sheets of a set of sheets are offset and then stopped during movement between the upper tray and the lower tray in order to provide sufficient time for the preceeding booklet to be finished and removed from the lower tray.

摘要： A method for the application of a sizing composition or the like to a traveling web under high speed conditions which involves passing the web into the nip formed between two counter-rotating rolls and supplying a sizing composition to the nip to thereby form a pond of sizing material on both sides of the traveling web. Additional amounts of sizing material are constantly being supplied to the ponds by means of a suitable applicator and nozzle arrangement, while the depth of the ponds is controlled continuously by the application of a reduced pressure to the existing ponds resulting in some of the sizing composition being drawn up into the applicator from where it is delivered to a reservoir for further circulation through the applicator.
