A layer transferring device includes: a main casing having an opening and accommodating a heat roller, a motor, and a first transmission gear therein; a film cartridge; and a cover at which a pressure roller and a second transmission gear is provided and movable about a pivot axis to open and close the opening. The heat roller is movable toward and away from the pressure roller when the cover is closed. When the film cartridge is attached to the main casing and the cover is closed, the multilayer film contacts and passes through between the pressure roller and the heat roller. When the cover is closed, the first transmission gear for receiving a driving force from the motor and the second transmission gear for transmitting a driving force to the pressure roller are positioned between the pivot axis and the heat roller and in meshing engagement with each other.

A mandrel for use in a printing apparatus includes a substantially cylindrical mandrel shaft and plastic expansion rings that are slidably and coaxially mounted on the mandrel shaft. The mandrel also includes a locking assembly including a fixed stop ring and a single locking ring that is axially movably mounted on the mandrel shaft. The expansion rings are positioned between the stop ring and the locking ring. In the unlocked position of the locking ring the expansion rings are in a released state in which the axial compression and the radial expansion of the expansion rings are smaller than in a locked position of the locking ring. A printing cylinder sleeve can be fixedly connected to the mandrel by bringing the expansion rings in the radially expanded state. When the printing cylinder sleeve has to be exchanged, this is feasible when the expansion rings are in the released state.

A spacing between the axes of rotation of the printing form cylinder and of the impression cylinder can be varied and the printing form cylinder and the impression cylinder can be set against each other, to form a press nip in which a substrate can be printed. A first drive for producing a rotational movement of the printing form cylinder is connected to the printing form cylinder through a drive train. At least one component of the drive train has a torque axis running through the impression cylinder. A printing press having at least one printing unit and a process for producing labels or self-adhesive labels in a printing press, are also provided.
