Abstract:
A sawmill feedspeed control system having a force sensor operatively coupled to a sawguide of a sawblade, the output of the force sensor being processed and supplied to a motion controller and driver for reducing or increasing feed velocity of a workpiece so as to prevent overfeed or underfeed, while minimizing deviations of the blade from a straight cut and maximizing production throughput.
Abstract:
A saw-blade tensioning arrangement for band saw and like machines which includes a hydraulic cylinder (6) having arranged for movement therein a piston (7) which is intended to activated saw-blade tension control means (2). The blade tension is, in this way, dependent on the hydraulic pressure in the cylinder. The arrangement includes means for pneumatically regulating the hydraulic pressure, these means including a pneumatically operated pressure booster (10) and means (19, 20, 35) for activating the pressure booster at the end of a working stroke of the hydraulic piston, therewith to tension the saw blade to the desired working tension, this working tension being determined, inter alia, by the blade width.
Abstract:
A band saw or scroller is provided which includes a housing with confronting spaced portions and apparatus for carrying a plurality of rollers for supporting a closed loop band saw blade for travel of the blade in a closed loop path with a portion of the blade extending between the spaced housing portions. Apparatus is provided for driving the carrying means to drive the blade. Apparatus is provided for adjustment of blade tension by the adjustment of the position of one of the rollers by varying the orientation of the roller shaft axis, the adjustment apparatus including an adjustably rotated mounted member, and means eccentrically positioned on the rotatable member to support an end of the roller shaft, so that adjustment of the rotational position of the rotatable member adjusts the roller shaft orientation to vary the position of the roller periphery.
Abstract:
A closed hydraulic system for band saws transmits manually actuated control of the saw blade tension, provides for easy and remote reading of blade tension, instantly stops rotation of the upper saw blade wheel in case of blade breakage, shuts off the motor drive when blade breakage occurs, and prevents restarting of the motor until a new blade is installed and tension is applied thereto. The upper idler blade band wheel is equipped with a spring loaded brake held in a non-braking position by hydraulic fluid which is pressurized from a manually actuated crank which shifts the upper wheel to apply tension to the saw blade band and when the band breaks to release the tension, the fluid pressure drops sufficiently to allow the springs to actuate the brake for stopping the wheel. At the same time, a fluid pressure actuated switch in the electric circuit for the driving motor is opened to prevent restarting of the motor until tension is once again applied to a new saw band.
Abstract:
A compression spring tensioner for the blade of a portable electric band saw has a rotatable blade release lever which upon rotation causes a release shaft with an eccentric crank pin bearing to move a blade tension bar which acting through compression spring means and a spring anchor bar causes the front pulley guard and the front idler pulley to slide. As this unit is slid forward, the blade becomes fully tight and the guard and pulley cannot move further forward. However further rotation of the blade release shaft forces the blade tension bar to compress the compression spring means to apply an accurate predetermined tension to the band saw blade. Furthermore, the eccentric crank pin bearing operates in an overcenter relationship to the blade tension bar to provide a positive means of holding the rotatable blade release lever against a fixed stop to assure that the accurate preload on the band saw blade is maintained under all conditions during usage of the saw.
Abstract:
A band saw machine includes a machine frame unit with a longitudinal guideway, a cam follower movable along the guideway, a wheel mount movable with the cam follower between closer and remote positions relative to a first wheel mounted on the machine frame unit, a biasing member disposed to bias the wheel mount to the remote position, a second wheel mounted on the wheel mount, a band saw blade trained on the wheels, and an actuating shaft with a cam end which engages the cam follower. The wheel mount can be kept in the closer position with a friction force that counteracts the biasing force of the biasing member by turning the actuating shaft so as to permit replacement of the band saw blade.
Abstract:
A band saw quickly changing device for a band saw machine is pivotally connected to a turning wheel of the machine body, including a sliding base, two limiting bases, a spring, a support plate, a micro-adjusting rod, a quickly adjusting device and a bottom base. The quickly adjusting device is composed of a shifting block, an eccentric block and a handling rod. The eccentric block has an eccentric shaft hole for pivotally connected on the shifting block, and the handling rod has a pivotal member formed in its upper end to fit in the eccentric shaft hole and fixed therein with a bolt. When the handling rod is swung backward, the sliding base is moved down to let the upper turning wheel move down, loosening the band saw extending around the two turning wheels of the machine.
Abstract:
An elongated stamped sheet-metal slider member facilitates the alinement and support for the guiding pulley of a band saw. The slider member has several integrally-formed portions. A first portion depends within the housing, and the pulley is rotatably supported thereon about an axis substantially perpendicular thereto. A second portion of the slider member is bent away, forming an obtuse angle with the first portion, and extends through a slotted opening formed in the housing. This second portion has a pair of ears projecting laterally of the slotted opening for preventing the slider from passing completely into the housing. The ears have respective side edge portions engaging the outer surface of the housing and forming therebetween a fulcrum for pivotal movement of the slider member and hence the pulley about an axis which is above the pulley axis and transverse thereto. A jack screw is carried by the housing for engaging the first portion of the slider member below the pulley axis. Movement of the jack screw pivots the slider member and hence the pulley about the pivot axis of the slider member, thereby facilitating an alinement of the guiding pulley. A third portion of the slider member is bent back into the housing above the fulcrum and within a plane substantially at right angles to the plane of the first portion of the slider member. A cap screw is secured at its lower end of the third portion of the slider member, and the head of the cap screw is captured by a tensioning knob for supporting the slider and hence the pulley within the housing. By means of the tensioning knob and cap screw, the slider member may be raised and lowered vertically within the housing, and thus the pivot axis of the slider member will be adjusted vertically. In addition, a suitable spring is provided to tension the assembly and hence the guiding pulley, and as a result the pivot axis of the slider member will float along the outer surface of the housing.
Abstract:
A blade tensioning mechanism for a band saw is provided with a block slidably mounted on the saw frame and carrying a movable, non-driven, i.e., idler, band saw blade wheel. A link extends through a cam follower secured to the block and carries a pivotally mounted cam for engaging the cam follower. The end of the link opposite the cam is threaded and is engaged in a threaded bore of a rotatable shaft which is carried on the frame and which is restrained against displacement relative to the frame. A handle is connected to the shaft through a preset torque limiting device whereby the blade can be pretensioned to a predetermined amount by turning the handle to move the link, cam follower, block, and idler wheel relative to the frame. The cam can be subsequently pivoted against the cam follower to further move the idler wheel a predetermined amount to apply a final, operational tension.
Abstract:
A hydraulic tensioning apparatus for the blade of a bandsaw machine. The blade is trained around a pair of wheels, one of which is mounted on a carrier which is movable relative to the other wheel. The carrier is acted upon by a double acting hydraulic motor, the operation of which is controlled by a manually adjustable valve. A check valve blocks the escape of hydraulic fluid from the motor when the manually adjustable valve is set to the "tension" mode.
