Abstract: In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a method for converting waste plastics into value-added products, the method including the steps of (a) contacting the waste plastics with a catalyst to form a reaction mixture and (b) applying microwave irradiation to the reaction mixture. In another aspect, disclosed herein are value-added products including, but not limited to, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons produced by the process disclosed herein. Abstract: A method for facilitating the distribution of the flow of one or more streams within a bed vessel is provided. Disposed within the bed vessel are internal materials and structures including multiple operating zones. One type of operating zone can be a processing zone composed of one or more beds of solid processing material. Another type of operating zone can be a treating zone. Treating zones can facilitate the distribution of the one or more streams fed to processing zones. The distribution can facilitate contact between the feed streams and the processing materials contained in the processing zones.

Abstract: A method for controlling temperature of a chemical reaction without measuring a temperature of the chemical reaction. Changes in mass of a chemical reaction are monitored and are used to calculate the temperature of the system. The reaction can be maintained at a desired temperature (T) without measuring the temperature. The disclosed method is useful for reactions that occur at non-equilibrium conditions where any measured temperature would presume steady-state conditions.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an absorber column apparatus for removing a selected component of a gas. The apparatus may have a first zone, a second zone and a third zone, wherein the first and third zones form a first domain through which a first fluid laden with a select gaseous component to be removed therefrom flows along concurrently with a second fluid. The second fluid at least substantially removes the select gaseous component from the first fluid to create a third fluid. The first fluid leaves the absorber column as a fourth fluid with the select gaseous component at least substantially removed therefrom. The second zone forms an active packing zone including a structure which forms an independent second domain in thermal communication with the first domain. The second receives a quantity of the third fluid and channels it through the second zone to help cool at least one of the first and second fluids.
