    摘要: An implantable elbow joint for connecting the upper arm and the forearm includes an axially extending sleeve of C-shape transverse cross-section, a cylindrical member engageable within the sleeve, and a connecting member implantable in the ulna and engageable with the cylindrical member in the sleeve. The sleeve embraces the trochlea of the humerus through an angle of more than 180.degree. about the sleeve axis and also serves as the abutment for supporting the radius. The sleeve has a slot extending in the radial and the circumferential directions. At least in the region of the slot, the internal surface of the sleeve is formed by a cylindrically shaped surface. A cylindrically shaped sliding member is supported in the sleeve in the region of the slot. An elongated shaft is arranged to be inserted into the ulna with one end projecting out of the ulna and extending through the slot into the sliding member.

    摘要: The prosthesis shank is composed of a blade which carries a joint head and a wedge-shaped end piece. The end piece is driven in along a guide in the lateral narrow side of the blade while the blade remains in a fixed position. The wedge-shaped form of the end piece permits fixation of the blade at a predetermined height such that the joint head can be at the level of the trochanter tip.

    摘要: A stemmed femoral component for the human hip for which fixation is provided in one embodiment by bony ingrowth and which may be easily removed for replacement thereof by an osteotone. The two-piece component includes a stem which is elongated and has on its proximal end a Morse cone and a laterally extending collar adapted to reside on the cortical bone in the region of the femoral neck. In the one embodiment the stem is textured or provided with a porous material on its outer surfaces only in the metaphyseal portion and only on the anterior, lateral, and posterior surfaces. The medial surface is smooth, as is the diaphyseal portion of the stem. In this manner, bony ingrowth takes place only in regions that can be reached with a osteotone for removal. A threaded extractor and mating hole in a driving platform may also be provided for removal. In a second embodiment a cement such as methylmethacrylate is used in place of the bony ingrowth on the anterior, lateral and posterior surfaces of the metaphyseal portion of the stem.

    摘要: An improved artificial leg has a ball and socket ankle joint (3) connecting a foot (2) to a shin member (1). The ankle joint comprises a two-part socket (5A, 5B) enclosing a part-spherical ball member (4) with an elastic sleeve (6) sandwiched between the socket and the ball member (4) to allow resilient flexion of the foot (2) relative to the shin member (1). In order to provide relatively more resistance to dorsi-flexion than to plantar-flexion, an elastic buffer in the form of a ring (11) is disposed around a coupling shank portion (4A) of the ball member (4) to engage a downwardly extending anterior skirt portion (12) of the socket. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the skirt portion (12) also extends around each side of the ring (11) to provide resistance to medial and lateral flexion.

    摘要: A knee joint for an artificial limb comprises a knee member having a part spherical convex lower surface pivoted about an axis to a knee housing having a part spherical concave upper surface conforming to the curvature of the knee member. A spring loaded plunger directly connected to a release cable runs on a guideway on the curved surface of the knee housing when the knee is flexed and in the unflexed position latches into a seating to prevent knee flexion. A collet fixing is preferably used to attach the shin tube into a socket depending from the knee housing without the need to drill the tube.

The differential pressure across the valve leaflets is greater than zero and less than about four mm Hg. An insert restrains the valve against substantial distortion during the time the valve is subjected to the tanning fluid.

    摘要: A humeral member and an ulnar member are joined by an intermediate insert which functions as an ulnar bushing. A radial member may also be employed with the prosthesis. The ulnar member includes a curved surface from which a support projects. Preferably, the curved surface is in concave cylindrical form from which a flat support radially projects. The support terminates in a cylindrical member which has an axis located at the center of the curvature of the curved surface. The ulnar bushing is of generally cylindrical configuration and is mounted about the cylindrical member for rotation. The humeral member engages the intermediate insert allowing relative rotation between the ulnar member and the intermediate insert along with the humeral member. A spherical portion projects from the side of the humeral member and has an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the ulnar member. The spherical portion is for contact with the radius or radial member. The radial member has a concave spherical surface for engaging the spherical portion and may include a circular X-ray wire in a top portion thereof.
