摘要: A guidewire exit tool includes a pin that is insertable into a guidewire channel of a rapid exchange-type catheter. The pin has at least one tapered end that urges a guidewire out of a slit in guidewire channel. In one embodiment the exit tool has an oval handle that is angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pin such that the tool can be easily grasped and moved along the guidewire channel.

摘要: A simulator adapter is provided to be used with a conventional oximeter for monitoring a patient who may be remotely located from the oximeter. In a first embodiment of the invention, the simulator adapter has a simulator digit that fits to the sensor of the oximeter. The simulator digit senses the light output from the oximeter and provides a feedback to the simulator adapter to enable the adapter to adapt the signal of the patient sent to the adapter for use by the oximeter, as if the patient is on-site and is being measured by the oximeter. In a second embodiment, in place of a simulator digit, the simulator adapter has as its output a connector which is adapted to mate with the conventional connector that is part of the conventional oximeter. This second embodiment eliminates the need for any simulator digit and sensor for the oximeter, as appropriate circuitries are provided in the simulator adapter to enable it to connect directly to the oximeter. In an environment where the signal from the patient may be affected electromagnetically, the simulator adapter may be connected to the remote oximetry unit by a fiber optic cable, so that the signal representing the physiological parameter remotely measured from the patient is directly sent either to the simulator digit of the first embodiment or the adapter connector of the second embodiment.

摘要: To provide a measuring method which enables a highly accurate measurement of concentrations of specific components in subjects of measurement even when the concentration measuring contact of a concentration measuring instrument is contaminated with drinks or the like. The concentration measuring instrument includes: a main body that has a concentration measuring contact, a light source and a photodetector; and judging means that calculates the difference between a non-contact-measured value, a value, measured by the photodetector while keeping a subject of measurement out of contact with the concentration measuring contact, of the quantity of light that is emitted and entered by the light source into the concentration measuring contact and returned to the concentration measuring contact and a predetermined reference value obtained in advance by making measurement while keeping the concentration measuring contact clean and judges whether the calculation of the concentration of the specific component in the subject of measurement is effective or not by comparing the calculated difference with a predetermined threshold.

摘要: This invention relates to low molecular weight analyte sequestration, storage, transport and recovery device and methods for its use with saliva samples in the detection of glucose and other low molecular weight analytes. A stimulated or non-stimulated saliva sample is contacted with a matrix (16) disposed within a container (12) that adsorbs glucose, absorbs water and excludes molecules above a certain size when hydrated. After hydration of the matrix by the saliva sample, the glucose is both adsorbed to the matrix, and migrates into the cavities within the matrix, whereas microbes such as bacteria and larger molecules such as proteins cannot. A membrane (18) keeps the matrix (16) in the bottom of the container (12). The sample is then transported to a location where the glucose will be eluted from the matrix and assayed.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a blood collection system comprising a blood collection tube, a tube holder, and a self-blunting blood collection needle. A blunting member is deployed upon withdrawal of a blood collection tube from the tube holder, to blunt the needle and so safeguard the patient and the technician from inadvertent needle sticks. The blunting member is retracted to re-sharpen the needle when a subsequent collection tube is inserted into the holder. The mechanism effects blunting and re-sharpening of the needle without requiring that the technician manipulate the mechanism in a manner different from that of conventional, non-blunting blood collection needles. Four types of mechanisms are disclosed: a rack and pinion mechanism; a cylindrical cam mechanism; lever mechanisms and a reversing strap mechanism.

摘要: A method and device are presented for use in non-invasive optical measurements of at least one desired characteristic of patient's blood. A condition of artificial blood kinetics is created at a measurement location in a patient's blood perfused fleshy medium and maintained for a certain time period. This condition is altered over a predetermined time interval within said certain time period so as to modulate scattering properties of blood. Optical measurements are applied to the measurement location by illuminating it with incident light beams of at least two different wavelengths in a range where the scattering properties of blood are sensitive to light radiation, detecting light responses of the medium, and generating measured data indicative of time evolutions of the light responses of the medium for said at least two different wavelengths, respectively, over at least a part of said predetermined time interval.
