摘要:
A method and an apparatus for manufacturing a woven slide fastener stringer wherein synthetic resin fastener elements in the form of a continuous spiral are formed at the same time that the fastener tape is woven. In the method, the monofilament for forming the fastener elements is advanced toward a hook on one side of warp bunches from the other side thereof, engaged on the hook at the advanced position and guide into a fell via the one side of the warp and is thereafter deformed into a loop shaped fastener element. The apparatus includes a carrier for advancing the monofilament across the warp bunches and a swinging arm swingably positioned at one side of the warp bunches. The swinging arm includes the hook for engaging the monofilament for forming fastener elements and is swingable between a first position wherein the hook is situated at one side of a fell and a second position wherein the hook is remote from the fell. The monofilament is passed through the carrier and is advanced to the position where it engages the hook when the swinging arm is in the second position.

In a woven slide fastener stringer of the type which comprises a row of successively interconnected elongated loops of a plastic filament woven into a longitudinal edge of a stringer tape woven of foundation warp and weft threads, and a pair of groups of upper and lower binding warp threads extending respectively over and under the loops and interwoven with the foundation weft thread, the improvements comprising a gap-filling warp thread extending parallel with and between an outermost one of the upper binding warp threads and the next adjoining upper binding warp thread and also between an outermost one of the lower binding warp threads and the next adjoining lower binding warp thread, and passing alternately over and under the foundation weft thread, thereby tensioning the latter thread to sink substantially halfway between the upper and lower legs of each adjacent pair of loops. Preferably, the outermost upper and lower binding warp threads are disposed in registry with each other to make the foundation weft thread lie substantially perpendicualr to the plane of the fastener stringer between the two outermost binding warp threads. The row of loops thus woven is stably secured in place against angular displacement and held at the proper pitch with respect to individual adjacent loops.

A woven slide fastener stringer comprises a row of filamentary coupling elements fastened to a stringer tape by a binding thread system composed of weft and warp threads intertwined with the coupling elements and the stringer tape. At leat a pair of warp threads symmetrically overlie and underlie upper and lower legs of the coupling elements and cross each other between adjacent coupling elements. The weft threads of the binding thread system are interlooped with the symmetrically running warp threads at the upper and lower legs of the coupling elements. With such an arrangement, coupling heads connected to the coupling element legs are disposed substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the stringer tape for increased coupling strength necessary to keep opposite rows of coupling elements securely interengaged against accidental separation. An apparatus for manufacturing such a woven slide fastener stringer includes independent heddles and filling inserters for supplying warp and weft threads of such a binding thread system.

A method of making a slide-fastener stringer in which a continuously woven tape and a coupling element interwoven with the tape are formed continuously and the coupling elements of the resulting continuous web are gapped to permit insertion of the slider onto the web which can then be subdivided into individual slide-fastener stringers. According to the invention, weft yarns pass beneath the bight connecting the coupling members of the continuous coupling element and over warp yarns which are thereby held over the shanks of the coupling members by these wefts so as to be drawn away from the bights and so as to lock the warp yarns thus bunched together preventing them from raveling upon gapping of the web.

An apparatus for manufacturing woven slide fastener stringers comprises means for shedding a plurality of warp threads, a coiling mechanism for coiling a monofilament of synthetic resin around a mandrel in a conical orbit to form a series of coiled coupling elements and a weft inserter reciprocable across the warp shed and the conical orbit for inserting a weft thread into the warp shed, by which the coiled coupling elements can be woven into a stringer tape along a longitudinal edge thereof as the tape is woven of the warp and weft threads. The weft inserter includes an arm which when the weft thread is inserted is engageable with the monofilament to displace the latter out of the path of insertion of the weft thread so that the weft thread can be inserted smoothly without being frictionally engaged by the monofilament.

An apparatus for producing a woven slide fastener stringer includes a loom for weaving a stringer tape and a rotor assembly for coiling an element-forming monofilament around a mandrel to form a coiled coupling element, which is then woven into the stringer tape along a longitudinal edge thereof. The rotor assembly comprises a rotor rotatably mounted eccentrically on a stationary shaft, and having a guide hole for passage therethrough of the monofilament and a pin angularly spaced 180 degrees from the guide hole and slidably received in a radial slot in a radial arm to which there is drivingly connected a drive gear rotatably mounted on the stationary shaft. When the drive gear rotates, the guide hole rotates at a reduced angular velocity as it approaches the loom, thereby allowing harnesses for warp threads which bind the coupling element to be moved across the orbital path for the monofilament without interference.

A slide fastener comprises two continuous plastic filaments, each with a multiplicity of helicoidal coupling elements for interlocking with the elements of the opposite filament, each filament being woven integral with the threads of its respective support tape to form a single tape-like unit. Each coupling element has a coupling head on a loop end and a long shank and a short shank extending from opposite sides of the loop end. The long shank terminates in a first bight portion connecting it with a long shank of one adjacent coupling element, while the short shank terminates in a second bight portion connecting it with a short shank of another adjacent coupling element. The coupling elements are arranged in rows of mirror-image pairs, each including two long shanks and two short shanks. Warp threads are interwoven with the coupling elements, with even stronger bracing possible with bulbous projections on the long shanks, short shanks, first bight portions or second bight portions using textile weft threads.

In a slide fastener a helicoidally wound filament of synthetic resin having laterally extending coupling heads is interwoven with a stringer tape of primary warp and weft threads by a heavier secondary weft thread which passes over generally longitudinally extending root portions of the helicoid interconnecting successive loops thereof. The secondary weft threads, whose throw is substantially limited to the width of the helicoid, may consist of heat-shrinkable material and are anchored to the tape by being interwoven with secondary warp threads heavier than the primary warp threads. The interweaving involves use of a lower and an upper bobbin for the primary and secondary wefts, shedding of the secondary warp threads above and below a central level at which the helicoid is maintained, and shedding of the primary warp threads solely below the central level.

A method of weaving two separate tape parts of a slide fastener and apparatus therefor wherein the two tape parts comprising warp and weft threads are woven on a needle loom and are positioned one above the other. A continuous thermoplastic monofilament is interlaced between the tape parts to from meandering strands sections uniformly spaced apart and in uniform length, these sections being subsequently deformed, embossed, and molded into fastening links of the tapes. After folding and molding, the several plies of the tapes may be combined by sewing, adhesion or welding where thermoplastic warp and/or weft fibers are employed to provide a two-ply construction.
