Stringers without fastener tape have continuous fastener elements and have element fixing members wherein the fastener elements are sewn together by a sewing thread. The element fixing members are inserted between upper and lower leg sections of the fastener elements. The sewing thread comes in contact with and straddles the upper and lower leg sections of each fastener element and pierces the element fixing members between the fastener elements. As a result of such stringers without fastener tape, the fastener elements can be held and the weight and cost of an article with a slide fastener can be reduced.

Fastener elements are attached to a side edge of a fastener tape composed of a knitting structure. An interval between the elements and a wale in the vicinity of the elements is formed into a thin knitted fabric. A flange on a side of a rear mouth of a slider is disposed on the thin knitted fabric and the slider is slid based on this section. For this purpose, an outer side of a bottom end face of the flange is cut out to provide with a notch portion, so that this portion is formed with a small width. Consequently, the thin knitted fabric is slid and introduced securely, and making a pressure contact with a surface of the wale is prevented. Even if a fastener is mounted on trousers and its fabric is pulled in a lateral direction forcibly to open, the elements are prevented from biting into a tape guide groove and escaping.

In a woven slide fastener stringer of the type which comprises a row of successively interconnected elongated loops of a plastic filament woven into a longitudinal edge of a stringer tape woven of foundation warp and weft threads, and a pair of groups of upper and lower binding warp threads extending respectively over and under the loops and interwoven with the foundation weft thread, the improvements comprising a gap-filling warp thread extending parallel with and between an outermost one of the upper binding warp threads and the next adjoining upper binding warp thread and also between an outermost one of the lower binding warp threads and the next adjoining lower binding warp thread, and passing alternately over and under the foundation weft thread, thereby tensioning the latter thread to sink substantially halfway between the upper and lower legs of each adjacent pair of loops. Preferably, the outermost upper and lower binding warp threads are disposed in registry with each other to make the foundation weft thread lie substantially perpendicualr to the plane of the fastener stringer between the two outermost binding warp threads. The row of loops thus woven is stably secured in place against angular displacement and held at the proper pitch with respect to individual adjacent loops.

A slide-fastener stringer half comprises a knit tape having a plurality of parallel longitudinally extending wales and a plurality of transversely extending courses, and a monofilamentary coupling element on the tape and having a succession of turns each having a pair of shanks and a coupling head joining the shanks and projecting transversely beyond the longitudinal edge of the tape. The shanks of each turn lie at least in regions adjacent the respective head in a plane generally perpendicular to the tape. The tape comprises at least one warp yarn forming a chain knitted into the tape at every other course and overlying the shanks at the regions adjacent the heads. Thus the shanks are laid into the chains at these regions so that the coupling element is thoroughly integrated into the knit of the tape. The tape itself may be formed of a full-tricot ground. Alternatively the tape can be formed of second weft yarns having open loops at each course and extending transversely each over two respective wales. The warp yarn, as it overbridges each other course, is briefly pulled tight to produce fold-like seats in the ground unit to receive the paired shanks.
