Abstract: The present invention relates to a graft element (1) for joining together plant stem sections. The graft element is made of a resilient material and takes the form of a tubular structure having a hollow center that extends in a longitudinal direction so as to form a cylinder (2). The graft element further comprises a side opening (3) along its length and two elongated members. The side opening is connected to the hollow center over the entire length of the graft element. The two elongated members are located at opposite sides of the side opening and oriented substantially parallel thereto. The elongated members are provided with cutouts for receiving a gripping unit. The invention further relates to systems and methods for joining plant stem sections using the graft element. Finally, the invention relates to a system and a method for preparing the graft element.

The cutting tool further includes a blade holder in the trough, the blade holder pivotally engaged to the body, a strut assembly in the trough, the strut assembly pivotally engaged to the blade holder and pivotally engaged to the body, a blade in the blade holder, a blade channel in the body and extending through a third wall so as to receive the blade, at least one angled body channel in the body and wherein the blade holder is pivotable relative to the body to enable the blade to cut through a plant stem or tree branch present in the blade channel and the at least one angled body channel.

A space is provided between the first holder secured to the scion part and the second holder secured to the rootstock part to expose the stem.

Abstract: Provided herein are methods for providing improved vigor, and especially priming or improving root formation, of plant cuttings and to plant cuttings obtained thereby. Specifically, the methods include the steps of a) contacting a plant cutting with a polymeric solution, or suspension, optionally including one or more plant growth promoting and/or plant protecting compounds, thereby providing a coated plant cutting; b) allowing the polymeric solution, or suspension, of the coated plant cutting to solidify into a complexed coating, thereby providing an encapsulated plant cutting. The encapsulated plant cutting is coated with the complexed coating from the basal cut surface or tip of the plant cutting to less than 60% of the total length of said plant cutting to partially encapsulate the plant cutting with the complexed coating.

Abstract: The application provides a method for improving nutrient supply of female floral branches of Populus deltoides artificial hybridization. According to the technical links of the hybridization operation, the method separately integrates and improves the cultivation of female floral branch nutrient-supply seedlings (i.e., grafting rootstocks of floral branches), the pre-management of female floral branch nutrient-supply seedlings, the hydroponic management of floral branches, the Marching between female floral branches and rootstocks, the management of female floral branch nutrient-supply seedlings and the hydroponic management of female floral branches, so the goal of improving the seed-setting rate and quality of poplar hybrid seeds which came from the floral branches cultured in water has been achieved. Compared with the conventional method, the method of the invention not only can realize good seed quality, but also improve the seed-setting rate, and has a remarkable effect when applied to Populus deltoides artificial hybridization.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of stem grafting a scion to a stock, wherein an end for grafting of an element chosen from i) a proximal end of the scion and ii) a distal end of the stock is shaped to result in a shaped primary end, and the end for grafting of the other element is provided with a complementary a cut-out. To achieve stem grafting conveniently and reliably, the primary end and the secondary end at least the cut-out of the secondary end is obtained by machining using a milling bit. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the method.

Abstract: A method for cultivating a Tung tree seedling through hypocotyle grafting includes selection of a sand storage time of a rootstock (Vernicia montana Lour.) seed, seedbed construction, scion collection, scion cutting, rootstock cutting, bandaging, transplantation and management, and the like. A grafted plant obtained by a traditional grafting method (bud grafting) for Tung tree is easy to break at a grafting interface; and when the stem grafting is conducted, because a scion is thick, a rootstock for grafting must be cultivated one year in advance. These grafting methods have production problems such as long cycle and high cost, which can be solved by the present disclosure. The present disclosure has a short rootstock cultivation time, simple grafting operations, a high grafting efficiency, and a high survival rate, greatly shortens a cycle of asexual propagation-based seedling cultivation for Tung tree.
